squeaking

when i shut off my car the makes a little sqeaking noise. is this a minor problem that could turn into a larger one? or is it normal. i think its my cam gears. but not sure.

The first suspect is the harmonic balancer, but that's usually on startup.

Have a friend shut it off while you listen with the hood up.

i did and it sounds like its coming from my cam gears, or at least somewhere near there.

take off the top of the timing belt cover and see if you can listen a little closer (jsut be careful not to get your fingers cut off by the cam gears. If you still cant figure it out see if a mechanics stephiscope (sp?) can help you figure out the location a little better. You should be able to get one at autozone or murrays. If there is any question about anything by your timing belt; tensioners, balance shafts, water pump, etc, then you should change it just for the insurance and peace of mind it gives you.
