I've installed shifter cable end stiffeners from www.speed-source.net (very awesome bushings--easy installation and amazing difference) and they have this suggestion in the instructions:

"For an extra tight shifter feel, remove the bellcrank lever so that you can remove the little square slider that actuates the shift rod. This is often very worn from years of use. Rotate it 90 degrees and re-assemble."

On top of transmission, I know where the bellcrank lever is located, but how do I remove the lever to access that "little square slider that actuates the shift rod"? Does the shfit lever AND select lever (both) come off, and both have the "little square slider"?

Can someone shed more light onto this, with detailed info/photos, if possible? Where else can I find this info? Can this "little square slider" be replaced with something that resists wear? I'm assuming it's resin or rubber, or plastic--since they mention wear, can it be replaced by a metal one? Haynes manual didn't help at all. I'd like to be educated about this in order to know what to expect BEFORE I start messing with it all.

Thanks.

The picture you included shows the bolts pretty well. They are located just to the left and slightly toward the front of the barcode. It's two bolts that use a 12mm wrench. In my experience the square slider is actually rectangular, and if it's turned 90 degrees it won't fit back in. Since it's made out of plastic it will eventually wear down. I got a new one from the dealer, it's cheap and helps tighten the shifts a little. Plus it's a good idea to clean and grease the square slider.

The part # for the slider is MD712919 and in the Mitsu parts book it's called "shoe, M/T select lever" Cost a whole $1.80 from Conicelli aka Partznet.com

Awesome! Thanks a lot! YOu wouldn't happen to know the torque specs for those bolts, would you? Do both levers have this little part or only the slect lever?

There's only one square slider block. I don't know the torque spec, but it's not very much. Those bolts thread into aluminum, so go easy on them. Try to get a feel for the ammount of torque it takes to remove them, then just duplicate that torque.
