Springs or shocks?

I got a 95 Talon TSI and its obviously 10 years old about so the springs are gettin kidna old. I didnt know if it was springs or shocks that affected this but..... it seems like every bump that i go over u can feel it throughout the entire car. Any ideas how to make the drive alot more smooth?
