Spool up sounds wrong... Help!!!

Well, do you have any bright ideas???

The BOV leaked @ 6 psi, Obviously it needed to be replaced, even if it was not the root of my problem it certainly wasn't something I should leave leaking, right?

I spent hours with two other DSMer's trying to figure this out, and I believe that they have "a clue" about DSM's.

Right now I am trying to solve a problem, and to solve that problem I need to eliminate all of my possibilities before I just assume that it is my turbo, I do drive this car every day. So the logical steps were a leak, bad BOV, bad MBC, bad WG, blown gasket, and so on...

Now that I know it is none of the above, besides maybe the exhaust gasket (Quoted from a turboXS tech named Phil who had similar problems on a WRX, I'm guessing he has a clue...) I am lead to believe that it is my turbo. Unless there is something I am missing, that is the reason for this post.

So unless you have something useful to say that will help me solve this problem please stop replying to my posts.

Thanks,

CC

I'm just trying to save you from wasting your time. The problem is either your turbo or something easy. Someone with a clue could pinpoint the problem. I have not looked at your car, nobody here has, we can't help you. So what I was suggesting was that you find someone who can. It sounds like your "local DSMers" are having trouble helping you so I suggest you find someone else.

My stock t25 made that same noise. I pulled the turbo and check the blades.. the whuurring noise was caused by something being injested into the turbo and in the process chipping the compressor wheel. Have you checked to make sure?

If you were here what would you do to diagnose my car???

That is what I want to know so I can do it myself. Unfortunately there are no DSM shops around here, and according to you the locals don't have a clue. I am all out of ideas, and it appears everyone else on this board and DSMtalk.com are too. And many people have helped me on this board and have never seen my car. I'm sure you know a lot about our cars, and I respect that, but I have owned my car for a year and a half now, and I pride myself on my knowledge relating to my car. I still have a lot to learn and that is what I am doing here, learning.

Yes, I did look at the wheel and it looks fine, but that was a few days ago and the noise is getting louder, so who knows???

I can say that some turbos that I have seen are out of spec as far as shaft wobble BRAND NEW. Check you horizontal play as well as the diagonal axis play. My NEW big 16g had 'some' play... see every turbo will have some being brand new but this is to allow the shaft enough room to expand when it gets hot,... it also needs a little room for the oil so that the shaft rides on a film of oil (of course) as to not bind up. Now... if for some reason your turbo was defective from the manufacture it COULD be slightly rubbing the compressor housing. When my factory snail went whatever was ingested knocked the shaft slightly out of place and caused the compressor blades to just barely rub the housing and it sounds like a dying horse (someone made that comparison above)...And yes it still spun somewhat freely when this all happened... but once it heats up just slightly the tolerances are just to close and it rubs.
I know it sounds like a b1tch to do but you should probably remove the turbo spilt the housing and inspect the blade edge and compressor housing from that view point.
Hope this helps ya man..

I understand what your saying but the pressure is pushing against the rods when they are on the compression stroke. Even though the combustion starts before the piston is at TDC it doesn’t place any pressure on the piston until it is on its downward stroke. No need to be an ass and say I don’t know what I’m talking about. 20psi is allot if your not prepared for it.

Compression will not bend a rod. It will pop a head gasket, lift the head, etc. It will not bend a rod. You bend a rod because the power/torque is too much for the rod to transfer to rotational energy on the crank. Detonation is another beast completely, so that doesn't factor into this conversation.

I'm popping it out on friday, along with my pile of sh*t tranny. Both are headed back to Jon at TRE, the tranny is getting built like a mofo and the turbo will get a once over and repair, since it is still in warranty:)

Thanks,

CC
