A lot of my V8 buddies have cutouts on their cars. I realize they probably aren't gaining much from them, but it got me thinking. The reason my car has a hard time racing off a roll on the street is because all the lag. The turbo gets spooled by exhaust gases coming from the exhaust manifold. Now if I were to take my O2 housing or downpipe even and put a cutout there ... then take the open part of the cutout and loop it back up to the exhaust manifold so the same exhaust gases will pass through the turbo again would that help with spooling issues? Has this been tried? Is it just too crowded under the hood to even run a setup such as this? Just an idea that kinda got me thinking. :thumb:

The cutout will help spool up becasue the less restiction in the exhaust the better.

Your other idea wont work. If the exhaust is just in a loop how is it going to get out? Also, how are you going to control boost if the gases that are being released to control boost are being routed back in?

The cut out wont help with boost creep it will make it worse. Only use one of these only if you have an external WG and a very well flowing exhaust for your WG gases.
It will cause the turbo exhust gases to flow to quicky for the WG to keep up with the demand causing boost creep. The turbo will spool quicker of course becuse you are getting the exhaust out quicker but the WG flow remains the same. Not a good idea in my book.

It works on Naturaly asspired engines no problem becuse they dont have a turbo to deal with.

Yes it's in a loop but a cutout is like a Y piece. Air goes in and gets split, so lets just say 1/2 would go back to the turbo and 1/2 wouldn't. So in turn some of the exhaust is getting out .. the rest is "reused" ...Now running this in combination with a decent sized wastegate and an external dump should help with spool up and no creep since the wastegate will just dump the excess exhaust once the desired boost level is reached?

yea I agree downshifting helps but would this work in theory? The downshifting thing still leaves some lag and a common practice to help spool up is nitrous ... but this method wouldn't require the bottle being filled several times a week.

How would you expect exhaust gas to recirculate back through the turbo in a loop when there is more exhaust gas pouring out of the cylinders? Talk about killing a nice lowing exhaust... ;)

The cutout will definately help. Your idea will do more harm than good, but at least you're thinking!
