I have a 96 GST with an auto transmission. The speedometer was working fine. Today at some point I noticed that at low speeds (30 and under) it was reading 0. If accelerating or at higher speeds (50-75) it reads near normal but drops down when releasing the throttle. I could be going 70 let off the gas and as the car may slow to 65 the speedometer is reading 50 or 40. I pulled the plug off the transmission and reseated it. It seems to be well connected. Anyone have any ideas on this problem?

Check all connections with a voltage meter to make sure the wires to and from the guage and harness are connected proberly.

Afterthought.... If you are reading good voltage to your connections, then think about replacing the speed sensor on your tranny.

it is more than likely the speed sensor. my friends 95 eclipse rs did the same exact thing. then we picked up a speed sensor from the junk yard for $5 AND BOOM it was fixed.

How much bigger do you think he can go? ROFL... I hope he's not rolling around with 38's on it. I highly doubt that his wheel/tire package is effecting his speedo by 10 mph.

Stranger things have happened... I had a Blazer one time that read 15mph off and the wheel tire package was only about two to three inches bigger in overall diameter. Yeah, I know, it's a Chevy and all, but stranger things have happened.
