Niagara,
I just recently bought a set of 6X9 kicker speakers for my 2G, i believe the model number is KS-69. Anyways, when I was installing them, i realized the magnet on the back of the speaker was huge, and wouldn't fit in the space provided in the factory mounts. i crammed them in there, but I don't really like that idea. The rear panel is pressed right up against it, and its distorting the sound. If anyone has installed speakers that have been bigger then the factory ones, or any other ones..let me know how you got them in there without doing much damage to the rear panels.

thanks for the help (ps, if anyone knows anyone that does pretty good fibreglass work within canada, let me know..that was my second alternative)

I have a 97 eclipse. Now.... this is going to sound crazy but this is how i did it. I think this is the only way to make them fit without cutting the plastic panels to put in spacers. you have to allign the speaker with the holes the way it should fit (it will not touch the plastic mount but it needs to be inline with the holes. then press the speaker into the sound deadening material so it makes a mark in it. now take a small hammer and start pounding in the sheet metal right where the speaker made an indentation on the sound deadening material. Keep test fitting the speaker so you know when to stop shaping the wheel well. After the speaker fits remove a portion of the tar and bolt it up. You are done.

This sounds retarded but it works. dont worry about damaging anything because the sheet metal there is really thin and nothing mounts to it on the other side.
Hope this helps
Anton

I bent the sheetmetal behind the speakers as well. I grabbed a heavier, rubber-headed mallet and went to work. Be careful not to distort the bracket's mounting holes (when something bends, it pulls in things surrounding it).

Let us know how that worked out. You should not be doing too much mending there since even my infinitys didnt need too much.
