ok here goes... my talon keeps fouling the plugs about 5-10 mins after starting, im pretty sure its the rings because theres like a runy black liquid on the plug after i take it out when it wont start back up , now what im wanting to know is what the ring gap normaly should be and what is the gap alowance on used ones, im about to rip it apart this w/e in find out if it is the rings forsure but im also thinking the black liquid might be all the carbon build-up from inside the intake mani from blow-by and mixing with the fuel and then getting in the cyl.

i have a 91 talon tsi turbo if thats eny help

i got now bosh platnums to see if it would help but it didnt

Before you rip into the block... run a can of MCCC (mopar combustion chamber cleaner) or Seafoam through and change your plugs. I had a very similar problem and it turned out to be a massive carbon build-up. The shit would liquefy(sp) on start-up and after a few minutes of running would foul the plugs so bad they wouldn't carry a spark.

yea...theres a sh!t load of carbon inside the manifold its almost like sluge i looked inside there with'a flashlight in its pretty bad , has about a half quarter of'a in. of the stuff coated on the inside and around the ports its horrible

i took the egr valve off the mani today in the ports were so clogged that it looked like you could barely fit a pencile in em', where can i get this cleaner that ur talkin about in how much is it

You can get Seafoam from just about any auto parts store for about $7-9.00 MCCC is available in some auto parts stores and is also usually available from any Dodge/Chrysler dealership, I think it was $15.00 last time I got some.
Good Luck

ok i finaly cleaned out the hole intake manifold, intake ports and valves, i couldnt get the MCCC because the closet napa didnt carry it so i got the next best thing they had , Gum Out Steam Cleaner its great stuff, no smell, safe on paint and takes just aobut eny kind dirt /gease off of enything all you gotta do is spray it in there in let it sit for 15 mins then wash it off with water (i took out the manifold first thow) gets everything nice and clean , it eaven gets out the dirt on the manifold in makes it look bran new

but theres still a problem.... plugs are still fouling
car idles alot better now after cleaning everything out thow.
i came up that it wasnt the rings because it isn't chuggin smoke all the time but it only does it when you rev it up so im figurin now it might be the valve seals wich my dad said it might be too and he's ASE sertified
