yea so my cars got like 100,000 miles on it, what are some good plugs to be using? i was thinkin bosh 4s but someone told me they would be bad for my car..

Mechanic ran full diagnostic. Went and powerbraked it, pulled plugs and cylinder 2 was completely black. Sandblasted it off put in some seafoam, put stock plug wires back on. Runs puuurrrrrrfect. Ran to Twin Cities and back no prob.

Next week will replace fuel filter and clean/replace injectors.

Thanx for input... Oh wait forget that.

ok im looking for spark plugs for my 420a i was told tgo look for NGK bpr7es

but when i look for them theyre only made for the turbo application (4g63)

can we still use them or is there a different code for 420a?

BKR7E-11 is the colder NGK copper plugs for our cars. the stock number is 1283. why do you need colder plugs?

I went to my local autozone, and gave them the part ## thats in my 95 TSi manual for NGK spark plugs[ i've heard great things about NGK on these forums]. They don't stock the NGK plugs but they have a brand called 'V power' that is like a 'crossbrand' or something. He was showing me the box and it says NGK on the box[ I think it said 'powered by NGK' althou I didnt get a perfectly clear look at the box he was holding].

The price is about a 1.99 per plug and was just wondering if theres any major difference between actual NGk plugs and the Vpower ones he had shown me.

MY car is dead stock, I just bought it, and I don't want to get cheap out on the sparkplugs. I tried searching before posting and didn't find much on this topic. If its a common question my fault :(

well from what i have heard spark plugs are spark plugs and they arent going to be a big miracle worker for your car but as long as its gapped properly you will be fine. I had bosche platinum series and recently switched out to NGK's and i noticed minimal difference with them. Autozone is not the only place to buy spark plugs either. I beleive i bought mine at Kragen Auto. So check around if you are dead set with NGK plugs. I really wouldnt see a difference unless someone on here has had experience with it. :thumb: :talon:

There isn't a v-power plug with the correct heat-range that fits in a DSM. I used to work for Ramchargers, and had the NGK catalog, which is like 300 pages. It doesn't exist. :(

They are copper, but have a split center electrode. Imagine filing a groove into the center of the electrode and you've got a good idea.

They were originally made by snowmobile racers, and then NGK picked up the idea and started making production plugs for them. I have a set at home that "work", but they are too short, and the DSM wires won't hit the top where they plug in to the wire.

At my local advance auto parts they have both regular NGKs and NGK V-power for my 1.8.

I got the v-powers and they work fine, they were even pre-gapped for my car. I had no problem installing them to the wire or in the head. Car runs perfect with them.

I dont think NGK is the only company with split electorde plugs, ever hear of a brand called "Splitfire"

I dont believe there is any real difference with V-powers (I didnt notice any insane increase in power), its just a gimmick so less-knowledgable people will pay the extra cash. I bought them just becuase they made me feel special. :D

and i liked the idea of buying "better" plugs, its all in my head :dsm:

thanks for the input so far, well i guess i'm going to veer away from Vpower if they are too short and don't meet the proper heat specifications. I'm not buying for 'extra' performance or anything, I just got this DSM, it sputters at high RPM and is propably attributed to old plugs[ previous owner was lacking when it came to even basic maintanence..its either plugs, or dirty injectors, or boost leak..maybe a mix of all 3...but i'm going to by plugs and narrow it down] . I just want some decent plugs that aren't going to fail, and I had heard good stuff about the NGKs on here. I'll go searching for NGK plugs at some other stores around here.

come to think of it, when i mentioned the plugs and he brought out the Vpower to show me he initially asked 'is it for snowmobile' ..so yea....not going with those. ;)
