Well I can't seem to get 1 problem fixed before I run into another. I have been working on the 4k stutter problem but a couple of times running it up the road I lost all boost pressure. The problem came and went a couple of times. I closed my plug gap from 34 to 28 and I believe it took care of my 4k stutter. The problem is the car only made good power through a couple of gears and then fell on its face. No boost again (mechanical boost guage). I pulled off the air intake to spin the impeller and it would not move. Then I spun it the other way and heard a slight clicking sound and then it spun free both ways. I fear I have something in the turbo that doesn't belong. Anyone ever have this? When you get it out is the turbo okay? Currently the car will start and idle fine w/ no smoke. Any ideas?
 
I have never had this exact problem, but if it were me i would take the turbo off the car and take the intake and exhaust housing off so you can fully see the blades on the turbo and at which point you would also be able to check the housings completely. You really need to check it completely to make sure everything is okay. the clicking sound might be some shaft play. If the turbo has some shaft play you might hear the blades barely scraping the walls on the housing when you spin the turbo. good luck with finding the problem.
 
I had a car here that would do the same thing. I would just grab the nut with a pair of pliers, give it a yank, and it would work again for awhile. I never took the turbo apart because the owner was upgrading. I assumed there was probably an issue with the thrust bearing.
 
I had a little time to check a few things this morning before work. First I pulled the oil supply bolt at the turbo. I hit the key and let the car start and then immediately killed it. Plently of oil. Then I pulled air intake off and wiggled the impeller back and forth. It does have a little shaft play and there are minimal signs the impeller has rubbed the sides of the housing. I'm sure that any contact at all between the impeller and the side wall means the turbo is done. This is a little aggrevating being as the turbo has less than 25 miles on it. I bought it new off Ebay for $259. You get what you pay for? I guess I'll try to pull it off this week. Any thoughts?
 
what size turbo is it? also was in new or rebuilt? and was it a company selling it or a individual? you may have been taken depending or those factors. that aside, if it were me i would take the turbo off the car so i could take the housing off and be able to look at the insides of them and look for scratches or dents, etc. and then you would also be able to look at the blades and see if any of them got chipped of anything like that.
 
I have a friend who has bought two turbos off of e-bay and both of them have turned out to be junk. One other guy I know keeps buying those t3/4 turbos off there also and they keep blowing oil seals on him. I guess it is one of those deals where you get what you pay for.
 
It is a supposed big 16g evo 3, it is new, and from a business on ebay. I have talked to a few guys locally who have also bought turbos off ebay and they said they were junk. I don't mean to put down all the turbo distributors on ebay but I can't say I've heard anything good about an ebay turbo yet. I will try to get the turbo off this weekend. Its cold and I don't feel like laying on the 35 degree concrete just yet. Who sells the cheapest REAL MITS 16g evo3? I know turbochargers.com and extremepsi are both about $550.
