Ok buddy calls me up yesterday asks me if i want to buy a complete 17c turbo w/ water and oil line for my car for 300 bucks. I've looked it up a little bit, but im not sure if i want this, b/c most of you all are going with 16g's and 20g's . Who makes the 17c turbo and whats it compared to a 16g? How much harder is it to install? Are the reliable??thanks for again for putting up with me, LOL let me know if you know anything about these things, i've only had a few minutes to do any research on this thing--Tony

From what I understand that its just a rare turbo.... the 17g shouldnt be any harder to install than a 16g... Its just slightly bigger, its kinda like the 18g, the black sheeps of the family, they just dont produce enough gain for the price that they used to charge for them. But you seem to be getting it at a good price. :) So go for it. Check for shaft play.

Kinda scared to go through with this deal because i know as soon as i get it im going to want to put it on this weekend, and i dont have supporting mods. (no FMIC, or fuel pump nor injectors) just 3" turbo back and intake, MBC and FPR, and a 1g BOV

Decent price.

They're MHI (Mitsubishi Heavy Industries) turbos, the same company that makes stock 1G turbos and the 16/20Gs.

17C's aren't as stout on the topend as a 16G, but you'll get similar performance for $300 plus an install kit. Not bad, IMHO.

turn down the boost, and you should be ok... just make sure you test shaft play and such...

actually yeah you need a j-pipe or install kit since you have a 2g

Thanks guys, he just said if i give him 250 bucks cash :thumb: this week i can have it ( he lives 14 miles from my house.) Hell if i dont like it i can always sell it right? Or do people stay away from these things. Im gonna go for it, thanks once again--Tony

***stupid stupid question go ahead hit me, but how do i check for shaft play?! ugghh i feel so stupid ive never had to do a turbo swap. I should of done more research sorry guys. Can you test the shaft play wihtout it being installed?

definately get it :D its a 16g but a little bigger basicly, they are uncommon but i dont think because they are a bad turbo, just because the alternatives were more appealing. 250 is a good deal even if you only get a year out of it. shaft play is.. well.. shaft play :) grab the compressor wheel and try to wiggle it, if its moves around a lot the turbo is on its way out. slight movement is normal, anything more than slight is cause for concern.

I still have a friend that had a 17C on his car. He bought it at www.extrememotorsports.com and from what I know this is where these MHI turbo's first started surfacing.

They rate the 17C good for 360hp. Like a 16G.

His car was FWD and ran mid-high 13's in it with this turbo and a full exhaust, open air filter, mbc at 17psi, vented turboXS RFL bov, stock fuel pump, stock injectors, no fuel control and no fuel cut that I remember. It pulled good, don't get me wrong, but my Big28'd GSX pulled Waaay better than his 17C TSI FWD.

his username is custom240sx, might even chime in., I dunno haven't seen him in nearly 2 years.
