I bought the Comp cam DVD, read all the tutorials, etc but still not seeing what is amiss.

I'm degreeing my FP2X INTAKE cam

Here is the cam card:

The card says 'VALVE TIMING @ .050 is [3- BTD] & [36 ABD]

I figure BBD = Before Bottom Dead Center & ATD = After Top Dead Center, correct?

Measuring:

At 0.050" lift (intake valve just opening) the degree wheel is on 6.5* ATDC. Where should it be opening according to card? I thought the intake valve should be opening BEFORE TDC?

At 0.050" lift (before valve is all the way closed) the degree wheel is on 33.5* AFTER BDC

Well since I don't know how to delete my own thread, I figure I will update it.

Here is a very helpful quote from a website I found.

Terms

ATDC after top dead center

BTDC before top dead center

ABDC after bottom dead center

BBDC before bottom dead center

Note that occasionally with short duration street cam, these figures maybe expressed as a negative number. Since most timing cards are preprinted, it is difficult to change these abbreviations. –5 BTDC means 5 degrees ATDC. Most timing programs in software are set up the same way so be sure you enter the figures properly.

This particular website is very good with explaining how to degree cams, check it out. Degreeing a Camshaft by Camcraft Cams
