So I'm tuning my 2G GSX with the 6-bolt block, and I had a couple questions.
First, the setup:
Stock 450cc injectors & FPR
Stock MAF
Evo III Big 16G
BIG FMIC
93 octane
I was told by a friend to use the MAF COMP feature to do the main tuning (aka getting the basic air/fuel ratios and so on).
To me, this doesn't really make sense. By re-calibrating the maf, aren't you actually changing how the computer changes fuel AND timing? And don't you want to tune these separately?
I realize that the fuel table in v2.5 is mainly used at WOT, But for what I'm using the car for (street driving), and with my setup, it seems like I should mainly be using this to dial in the WOT air/fuel ratio's and let the stock progam do the rest.
Using the MAF comp, my air/fuel ratios are extremely conservative (10.5:1) and I'm still getting knock at around 5500-6000rpm. It's pulling about 2* of timing. Now keep in mind this is in 45* weather.
I had it tuned more aggressively when it was warmer (around 70*), with air/fuel in the 11.2:1 range, and it was doing just fine.
I have pulled timing all the way (-16) but I'm still getting knock. I know I can adjust the cam angle sensor, but that's not going to do anything for my air/fuel ratio. Maybe I should adjust the cam sensor and then go back and mess with the MAF COMP?
So I'm just looking for advice on what the next step should be in getting this thing proper. I don't want to have to change the tune every time the temp changes 20*. The MAF should be doing that for me.
