I totally forgot that the previous owner gave these to me when I bought the car. I looked through these and was shocked. I'm sure you'll get a good laugh.

Original windows stickers.

Here's where the fun begins...
At 124,947 miles, the timing belt breaks. What does the pervious owner (a well-off business man type) do? He takes it to the dealership. Their solution? Let's try to put a new timing belt on it and see if it runs. It didn't (go figure). So $748.78 later, they "recommend replacing engine."

So he has it towed to a local garage.
They replace the engine, because that's what was suggested. :ohdamn:
They happen to find one for $2,850.00 FOR JUST THE ENGINE! WTF
The install it for a total cost of $3,696.38.
Just think of the engine he (now I) could have had for $2,800. :barf:

It gets better.
138,593 mile on the odometer, and he blows the T-25. Takes it back to another ever-so-helpful dealership. For a meager $1,605.52 he gets another T-25 installed.

A year and a half later, he's putting more $$ in.
The transmission finally lets go at 176,408 miles. Not too shabby if you ask me. This time, he takes it straight to a transmission shop. He gets it rebuilt for $1,895.43. With $860 in labor, I hope the other $1000 in parts ensured it was rebuilt with OEM Mitsu stuff. Chances it was??? Doubt it with a $225 torque converter.

The warrenty on the transmission was for 15,000 miles. I bought the car with about 192,000 miles. He got rid of it just after the transmission warranty ran out. :ohdamn:

If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn't have come near my car with a 10' stick.

So what did I get when I bought this car?
I thought I was getting quite a deal for $4,500. :banghead:
  • Wheel bearings with 192,000 miles. I've had to replace 3.
  • 192,000 miles of rust on the bolts (body is surprisingly clean)
  • A used engine with unknown mileage
  • A transmission rebuilt with who knows what
  • A relatively new T-25 (Yay. Oh, I blew that already.)

Oh, and the car now has almost 231,000 miles. :boring:

My car came with the window sticker and all the service records. Mine were the opposite though. All the recalls done and only services done at the dealer. No replaced major components, probably due to the 64k on the clock when I got it. Sorry you couldn't be so lucky. The previous owner was a dumbass.

All the recalls were done, but I don't think he kept up with the maintenance schedule. One of the first things I did when I got it was to replace just about every fluid I could. The timing belt and all that eventually got replaced too, but since I knew when it was installed, I wasn't in a huge hurry.

I've had the car 3 years, and I've spend just about as much money on maintenance as I have on performance. At least I don't worry anymore about talking long trips. I've pretty much gone over the car with a fine tooth comb since finding this site almost 2 years ago.

I think the suspension is shot though. I have no clue when and if any of it has been replaced.

$1200 for a T25???? bahahahahaha WOW

Ouch that guy should have signed up on tuners, could have been teached and informed 16g's sold for half the price of that t25...

Oh yeah. This guy got nickel and dimed by every shop he ever went to.

He was the suit-and-tie business professional. He sold it because he had been transferred from Pittsburgh to Seattle and didn't want to pay for shipping. I'm guessing that he also didn't want to risk driving it that far either. He sold it to me with one of the wheel bearings bad. I'd be surprised if he changed his own oil. He was still running the stock brand tires on the car. Those horrible handling Goodyear Eagle RS-A.

It's nice to have paperwork to see what a car has been through. I wish I had a window sticker though.

its crazy...my 91 window sticker was for 29,xxx bucks???

All the other prices for even the newer model 2g's are for less.

My automatic option was 1200 bucks too...that blew my mind

Wow, tons of dealer ripoffs there. haha. When I first got my car the brakes were so soft and barely worked, but I bought it anyway because it came with a 90 day warranty. I took it to the dealer the next week and they couldn't figure it out for a while. They bled the brakes, put in a new master cylinder, and replaced the ABS module. Bill came out to over $3,000. I thought it was awesome because I didn't have to pay and I still have the receipt.

I just noticed while I was reading through that and saw the part where they talk about the origin of the vehicle. Amount of parts made in Japan-26%, amount of parts made in North America-56%.

Wow i feel as if i i lost some of my brain after reading that. I bought my car 6bolt swapped it put a shep stage two trans in and did all of my mods for less then the engine swap that was done to yours. The last owner had more money then brains.

Well when I went to get mine i had my first day of work the next morning and had to be in at 6:30... I had talked to this dealer and he wanted 4500 for my spyder, til I noticed the doors and quarter pannels were a different silver... HMMMMM looked in the spare tire compartment and noticed a half ass rewelded ... Dent/hole... Told him I'd give him 3 for it.. He agreed... However since I financed with my own bank and not his beacuse his interest rates were freakin stooopeeedddd... I go up there with a blank check ... I get there around 4 pm and he effin' stiffed the price to a whopping 6.5gs.... I'm loike wtf@@@@@!@!!!! I didn't even make him pull a carfax I just told him since the damn thing had so many shades of grey it had been wrecked.. P.s I live in a military town... everyones out to rip those guys off... assholes... seeing as how i am one now.. i digress... So at the time nothing to do I hop on a car site and find a GSX for 2500... in virginia... quite a drive from nc at 4pm to buy a car... I call up there and am trying to reserve that car until they found out where I live... SO That doesn't happen and I'm in this pickle.. so 6.5gs later he hands me the paper work and THEN says you do know this is a TMU (true miles unknown) and you accept this fact blah blah blah.. AFTER the check was signed over and I had insurance on the car...
Terriffic huh?? Only 1 service record at 94,000 miles and the motor just hit 100k when i got it on the road... TWO days later the clutch slips horribly... I (like an ass) go up there and throw the fried clutch and pressure plate at his door :) I felt better for a few hours... Till my buddy started makin' fun of me for nto having my car on the road...
And here I am now... 3rd motor (second was a used one that crank walked) and on this third motor i'm on the 2nd head gasket in 200 miles... (uncontrolled boost blew out the first one) this thing has become the biggest money pit since my first gen.. BUT I love it twice as much when I'm not busy hating it... It just goes to show, not everyone can get as lucky as Timmy g when we get ours..
sorry for posting to an old thread, its been a while since i got on.
