I had a weird problem where my ABS light would randomly come on. Two things seemed to aggravate the issue: rain and really cold weather. Upon starting the car, the ABS brakes would work fine anywhere from 10-40 minutes before the light would come on. Turning the car off and on would return them to working condition.

I seem to have solved it so very simply: I thoroughly bled my brakes. It's been a few days of my 60 minute round trip drive to work without the light coming on. I'll keep my fingers crossed, but I thought this might be helpful to anyone else who has this issue.

my fuse is/was pulled the day i bought the car but it just started acting up after playing in the snow.:thumb::sneaky: correct me if im wrong but if the system works it pulses right? the light just came on and its on and off at times but damn its annoying. do i really need the system? and can i take it out? if i take it out will that damn light go away? its just like hitting regular brakes since its never been used and the fuse has been pulled. how might i have set it off if i was drifting in the snow?

Yes, the pedal pulses, you feel it in your leg.

If the light is on, there is an error on the ABS system and it stops working. Let check the error at a mitsubishi dealer. Maybe its just a small thing like a relais or sensor which can be fixed fast.

You can remove the complete abs or just the light. But its a security feature, with working ABS you can make a full stop and even use you steering wheel. I would never drive without anymore, saved my car to often.

Removing the whole ABS system requires:
- two new brake lines from the master cylinder to the propotional valve
- two new lines from the left and front brakes to the proportional valve
- a new non-abs proportional valve

The you can remove the ABS hydraulic block, the abs-ecu (pre 98) and lots of wiring.

Driving in the snow, won't hurt the ABS. Its build for wet, snow and ice conditions.

If you remove the light bulb the dash will not function properly.
At least for 1Gs.

If it uses the printed circuitry on the back of the cluster(it is green in color), you are creating an open in the circuit since most stuff is tied in series to alert the driver that a bulb is burnt out by killing/turning off more than just one bulb.

You can simply remove the ABS fuse(light will always stay on) to stop the system from working, and if the light is really that annoying, take apart the cluster and put electrical tape over the ABS light. However it might generate some heat so maybe something else would work better.

If the light can't be removed, you can buy the right resistor and put it there instead of the light. But I thing on 2Gs the ABS light is just one wire to the ABS ecu (pre 98) or the the abs block (98-99).
