Hey sorry to post this here not really sure where to actually, as its a general question.

Anyways I have seen on the forums solid aluminum front and rear torque mounts.

Where are people getting these, how much and what are the benefits?...

Thinking of maybe just doing the front one, with polys and the rest to lower overall vibrations.

Thanks in advance.

You can buy them for maperformance.com but no solid mount is going to help with engine vibrations in fact it's going to make it worse. I personally made my own mounts by just welding a sheet of steel on each side of my mounts and adding extra material in between the mounts. But if you are looking for a better ride solid mounts it not the way to go. Your girlfriend will hate them :).

I agree with dsmgabe, if ride quality is a priority, solid mounts are not what you want.
They help with performance and make car feel like it responds better but vibrate real bad due to no cushioning between engine and body.
If you want something what will help with performance and provide "decent" ride quality then polyurethane inserts will be the best option.

NO I don't mind the vibrations just dont want it to feel like a v8...My wife is never in the car so no worries about anyone else but me. Its not even the vibrations that suck its the rattles after about a week of vibrations that suck.

As far as the sheet metal idea that doesn't seem like a bad idea at all.

I have prothanes in the side mounts and window weld in the rear torque mount...the prothanes craped out up front for whatever reason so im looking for a better solution.

I seen on maperfromance the mount your talking about but thats for a 1g, and I have seen on here a solid front mount, with aluminum insert kinda thing.

I would really like to find out where people are getting those.

BTW, DSMGABE ANY CHANCE YOU HAVE PICS OF THE MOUNT YOU MADE? ALSO WHAT MATERIAL DID YOU FILL IT WITH?

THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY'S

Search for the user black gst. He makes front and rear roll stops that are polyurethane and are a breeze to install. I have them with the polyurethane on the sides as well and love them! Just to give you another route, instead of solids.

presonly, id stay away form avid. they did next to no r&d on the dsm mounts. my buddy has them in his auto 1g and only one mount worked out of the box. still only have 3 mount that fit. they just keep guessing on which mount might work. out of the 7 mounts that they sent only 3 work. they stop taking our call and emails.

I made my own out of solid aluminum. Best thing to do would be to take your old mount insert out, take it to a machine shop and have them replicate it from aluminum, then put it in yourself so its aligned in the mount right.
Sidenote, the original inserts are a pita to get out

Btw, solid mounts not only increase vibration, they also slightly decrease the ability to hook up on the road

If you eliminate flexibility in the drivetrain, it increases throttle response but decreases the grab. Kinda the same reason behind running wrinkle tires on a dragster or lowering the air pressure in your tires before making a pull. Someone please correct me if i am wrong here, but thats my understanding

I'm running the Avid motor mounts with the 90 durometer bushings and I have had absolutely no issues with them, other than a few missing bolts when I originally bought them. The mounts themselves are quality pieces and both the mounts and bushings look like they did from day 1, with a little bit of road grime on 'em.

I daily drove the car all summer and yes, it vibrates, but it's really not as bad as you'd imagine and it's mainly noticeable at idle/low speeds. Once cruising it's not really a big issue (although it's still there).

It does not decrease grab. If anything it increases grab, because you don't wheel hop (specifically FWD). Solid or high durometer poly mounts are just there to prevent the engine/transmission from rolling back and forward during hard acceleration and shifting. Aftermarket mounts do not increase throttle response, only drive train response.

Oh right duh, i forgot about the wheel hopping issue ;). Shoulda remembered because mine did that before i solid mounted mine. My brain aint working right today

Weld them up. or have someone machine an insert.
