So my boost creep fixed itself..

Just this past 3 days I've been hitting a solid 16.5 psi after a +~1.5 psi spike. ALL ELSE EQUAL [mechanically] about a week and on ago the 16G was creeping to well over 20 psi..

what gives? not that i'm complaining or anything. the only difference is the weather temperature rose to about 40*.

funny thing is, same setup, same boost in the summer I was also hitting rock solid boost
 
I never got boost creep in the winter, but when the weather is considerably colder (ie: 30* vs. 75*) I've noticed a 1-2psi difference. It's sort of like altitude. At 10k feet I would make 15 psi while at 3k feet I would make 20 psi without changing anything.
 
see but altitude has to do with air density. the air is thinner at a higher altitude hence the lower boost.

I guess going along with that, air is denser when its cooler oustide, therefore the higher boost? :|

are you as confused as I am ? :cry: :laugh:

Oh, here we go again. But if the air's thinner, the turbo will have less air resistance and be able to spool faster and at higher speed, which will self-compensate. It's why they were developed for aircraft engines.

This ought to be good, I'll need popcorn.
 
well, glad to hear you're not creeping anymore (at least for now). From what I understand it is a lot easier to tune without creep, not to mention safer.. I drove my car a couple of weeks ago in the cold, hit 25psi on accident.. I backed off REAL quick.
 
haha of course it's easier to tune without boost creep because the higher RPM data varies with how much boost you produce.

but back on topic.. anyone have any idea why this happens? it doesn't make sense to me
 
It has to do with the density of the air, which is proportional to the temperature. A simple formula will show you this...

PV=nRT

(pressure)*(volume) = (number of moles of a substance)*(constant number)*(temperature)

For it to work the temp has to be kelvin and the pressure must be in kilopascals I believe. I haven't taken chemistry for about 3 years so someone can help me out a little here. I think the constant is 0.80521






If this is completely wrong someone please let me know... LOL. :p
