Smoking after 272 cam install

After installing a set of Delta HKS 272/272 regrind cams I noticed white smoking coming out of the exhaust. It doesn't smell like coolant or oil, just exhaust. I used the provided shims I received with the cams when I installed them. The drivability is still good just as good if not better than before the cams. Any ideas why it would be smoking now?

it could be with the new intake/exhaust over lap you may be getting a little oil pushed through......do you have adjustable cam gears? they just installed straight up?

I do not have adjustable cam gears. I installed them straight up with new 3g revised lifters. And timing is set correctly.

If youre car was sitting out side and not running for a while it could be moisture in the exhaust.happened to me , took about 2 hours to stop.My muffler also angles up slightly so rain most likely was getting in there to.

I read about that being a possibility but I don't think it's that. It hasn't rained here in like a week plus it's been smoking for the last two days after I put them in. I just topped off my oil so if it is oil burning I'm going to check the levels today.

If it is oil burning would adjustable cam gears help to solve the problem?

Id do a compresion test just to be sure it isnt head gasket.

I second O HAI. if it was oil burning it would be blue not white. do a compression check. No, cam gears would not help if youre burning oil.

3 words Valve-Stem-Seals......if they're originals they could've been compromised slightly during the installation or just from additional valve train actuation from the cams being higher lift and the seals being old age....

I agree with Black-Out, carbon and dried caked oil buildup on top of stem above the seal, and when adding valve lift the rough built up part of stem damages the seal, possibly causing this, def warrant looking at, also using stock springs with higher lift can cause abnormal stress and possible floating of valves at higher rev ranges. Or did you do spring kit with the cam changes.

Valve stem seals would be oil. Well white is coolant or water....take valve cover off and make sure the oil isn't contaminated

Oh man I forgot about this It did turn out to be the valve stem seals. Replaced them and all the smoke was gone. Thanks for the help!
