Have you verified that the pump connections have not loosened up or that there is a leak around the pump to tank seal? Maybe you damaged the fuel line when removing the old pump. Do you have a mechanical fuel pressure gauge mounted in your cabin without a fuel isolator? Maybe it's leaking fuel into the cabin.

From your vague post, one can assume that you haven't done anything to check for a fuel leak. Do some basic/preliminary checks on the more obvious possible causes and then post your question for help and suggestions. The more information you can give about your situtation, the easier it will be for everyone to help locate or at least narrow down the possibilities.

You know you recently changed the pump, so start looking there. If nothing else, follow your nose.

Same thing happened to me back in 2004 when i did my 255. It's just that the big circular "thing" you spin to take the fuel pump assembly out is loose/not tightened right. Just unscrew it and take your time tightening it!

Very easy fix...

Look underneath your passenger side rear wheel at the tank. If you see something that looks like a leak, youve damaged the line. Remove your rear seat and the access plate for the fuel pump and check there too. If youre smelling fuel, thats most likely what happened.

sounds like that big O ring isn't properly fitted when you tighten the cap ..... make sure you put it on right and tight .... the rubber ring's groove should be facing a certain way...i forget though...
