Oil smells like gas

Changed my oil today and while draining it, I noticed it was completely dark and smelled like gas. Is something broken or is it normal? I don't know when the last time it was changed was, but I'll just keep doing it at 1.5k miles. I added some of that engine restore blue stuff too cause I used it in my grand am. Any additives you guys use that are good?

I wouldn't have a panic attack over it, but a compression test can alleviate your fears. Our cars naturally have a small amount of blow-by, which will cause that.

For oil additives, I don't run anything on a fresh oil change. A lot of guys, myself included, will use Seafoam once or twice a year 50-100 miles before an oil change. Generally 1/3 in the tank, 1/3 in the intake manifold (via vacuum line), 1/3 in the oil. It's recommended to do it soon before an oil change because it can dislodge large pieces of junk and cause problems if they aren't drained quickly (seen it happen first hand).

Just to chime in......our cars also tend to run a bit rich being boosted. Like spoolin92 said don't sweat it. I try to stay away from additives but lucas products are excellent across the board; oilnstabalizer....gas...all their Stuff.

^ speaking of running rich, is it normal for me to smell gas/oil after hitting max boost when I'm already doing like 55mph? say I do a 55-70 pull, I just smell oil/gas for a bit.

Do you have exhaust leaks? Check for leaks starting at the exhaust manifold.

Oh god, I'll tackle that after I get the boost leaks sorted out tomorrow.

Just stay away from additives. Motors were never designed to use that junk.

I guess I'll drain in about 1k miles and put just oil in.
