Smells like gas

Anyone know why usually when I fill up my tank all the way my car starts to smell like gas? Its coming from under the back seat, because under them it smelled like gas,so I took it out, filled my tank, and it smelled like gas in my car again.

Maybe there is a crack or hole in your tank and it takes a full tank of gas in order to reach it.

Sounds like a seal might be rotted out. Go ahead take the seat off and check the seal around the area where the pump is inserted into the tank.

Are you having any other problems in the fuel DEPT.?

Had a similar problem. Turned out to be a loose clamp on one of the fuel tank hoses. The dealer figured it out the second time I brought it in -- first time they said it was the roll over valve.

ill have to check everything when we get the chance, we think it might be some kind of hose or clamp or something, who knows.

only other problem possibly fuel related is my fuel gauge doesnt go all the way down (stuck at a little over 1/4) , posted about that ages ago just never fixed it.

Now that i think about it general, before u purchased the car the guy had upgrades done. As in probably upgraded fuel pump ect... so when he put the car back to stock he proabably killed the seal. Cant be the clamp because that thing wasent turning for nothing.

same thing happened to me...turns out the fuel pump assembly was not completely sealed after i installed my 255 so jus unbolt it and try to tighten it again makin sure its evenly leveled all around as u r turning it to tighten it. GOOD LUCK.
