Smelling gas

I'm smelling gas when I drive my rs eclipse only when the windows are down. I also don't smell it when the car is still aka stop light or in park. What could cause this?

Check the fuel injector seals(make sure they are still rubbery and not hard) and fuel rail for leaks. Also the little hoses on the fuel regulator are connected.

On the 420a engine(which is what you have) The fuel injectors are connected on the fuel rail which is in between the intake manifold and the black valve cover(behind the cover that reads "DOHC 2.0L 16 valves")

Its not that. I could smell the gas near the back rear tire.

Fuel filter or fuel pump. Does gas spray back out when filling up, thats a pinched hose. Take soapy water in spray bottle go over all hoses.

Try removing your rear seat, the 4 screws that should be covering your fuel pump access, and check and see if either the ring that secures the fuel pump assembly is doing its job as well as if there are any leaks in that area. Also check under your car to make sure you are not leaking fuel.

I had a similar issue with my 2005 Pontiac Grand Am. It was my fuel pressure regulator going bad. After I changed it I had no more problems.

Your fuel pressure regulator should be located opposite end of the fuel feed line on your fuel rail.

I figured out it was the fuel injector. the far right one if your looking at the engine. so I will be replacing that and seeing if it fixes my problem.

it was the o ring. i bought new ones just haven't had time to put it on.

better lube them up before you put them in or youll have the same problem. hahah sorry if you already know this.. seen it happen too many times

Hey sorry to bring up old issues but im still having that fuel smell. I can smell it around the back right tire and I dont smell anything in the engine bay. should I check the fuel pump? i visually inspected the fuel lines back there they look to be in good shape. I did also put the fuel injector seals on and it didn't fix the issue.

i smelled fuel in my rs from the back and was heavy where my pump is. i opened it up and had no leaks and tightned the screws to make sure it wasnt just lose. few days later my fuel pump went bad. My hose was pinched and the pump was working harder to try and get the fuel to the rest of the car which explained the strong fumes. I wouldnt just overlook this like i did and have your pump go out on you.

what hose was pinched? on the fuel pump orcoming fromt he filler neck?

the one on the pump. whoever had the car before me did a sloppy job installing that one and put a longer hose in causing it to get pinch when they put it in.

o okay. I unscrewed the cover to the pump and I did smell a bit of gas my next question would be should I put a steel braided lines just so I don't have to do this again or would a regular rubber hose do? Also what size hose will I be looking for.

unless you are running more then 600hp i would not go with braided lines. yes it is a piece of mind that you will most likely never have to upgrade again, but unless you have the extra money sitting around just go with stock hard line replacement i believe factory is 5/16.

is that 5/16 for the hard line or the rubber one. I am looking ot replace the rubber one because it is leaking.

replaced the hose and I also seafomed the car still smells like gas but not as bad. I am replacing the fuel filter this weekend any other ideas what could it be?

I replaced the fuel filter when I was changing my tranny fluild so far I dont smell gas. I think it may have been the filter.
