Wow I didn't realize that the non turbo dsm's were this slow... It seems as if the 420A's in the neons are tuned higher than teh ones they put in the n/t. Is there any potential in these cars or should I just sell it? Also, ever since I got my cold air intake my tranny (Auto) slips when shifting into 2nd gear, anyone knwo what that could be?

well since your posting here im gonna assume that your cars a non turbo

since your say when you go into second im gonna assume that your trannys a manual

now heres my advice on the tranny slipping it might be a clutch. If you could give me more infromation about your car and that sort and i could figure it out better

Well, I have a 1995 eagle Talon ESi Automatic Tranny with an aem cold air intake and ever since i bought it it jerks when shifting into seconf gear.

you be better off buying a turbo talon cause i believe that the nt uses the 420a but i could be mistaked and theres alot more work then buying a mani and a turbo and bolting it on. my advice check your ATF and see if it smells burnt or is discoloured then you can see if it is the transmisttion which is bad. Also i dont believe you need to drive it like a honda and bring it to readline to get its max power out i think it creates its max at 6K rpm that would be the end of its powerband

ATF = Automatic transmission fluid, it's usually red, you put it in the tranny when needed. LOL.

like he said, it more work then just bolting up a manifold and turbo, plus, the turbo on the turbo models is very small, and the manifold wont bolt up. buy a kit if you want to go turbo.

Ok, scrap the whole turbo thing... How complicated would it be if i put a 5 speed mt in my car... do u think it would be expensive if I bought a used one at a junk yard? and would my car be any quicker

LOL, it would be more expensive/time consuming than it's worth, unless you plan on keeping the car for a long time to come. As a rule of thumb though, yes, usually the manual would be quicker. :thumb:

I have an automatic too and my car was slow like yours. When my car shifted into second it would kinda bog down. I dont know if your car does that or not, but anyways you should turbo your car if you wanna make it halfway fast. I bought the Hahn Kit and it runs way better then it used to. And about the manual tranny. It really depends what you are going for. With an automatic with a turbo you are more efficient with your time, but with a 5 speed you will get off the line alot faster so its really up to you. I am not real sure how much it would cost to put a 5 speed in your car. Hope I helped a lil bit. 1994 Eagle Summit Project Car - Its going to eat civics - Coming Soon

just a question, do you try to shift your auto like its a manual... do you put it in low, than 2nd than drive??? if you do, don't next time you race.... just put it in drive and floor it...because it is going to jerk around and its going to slip when you redline than put it into second to finally let the transmission use 2 gears (first and second gear)... if you leave it in drive it will shift faster, smoother, and usually the tranny shifts better than a human...

ok, thanks for all teh advice , so do you think i should just stay with the auto or do a swap or is that too complicated.. o and... what is power braking???

sell it and get a 5 spd...there are plenty cheap 5sp n/t's out there....better yet..sell it and get a turbo

power breaking is when you hold down the break and rev the engine...then let go of the break to launch

don't waste your time ... sell your car and buy a turbo model. I'm not trying to be a total ####head turbo owner, but thats the honest to god truth. I have a 1995 talon esi that's manual and it is RIDICULOUSLY slow. It ran a 16.5 at route 66 and has an intake and a 3g muffler. It would take $2000 or more to get it running as fast as a turbo model with just free mods done. If you want a daily driver the NT is fine ... for a race car or weekend race car at least then no way.

o ok i might, but considering im only 17 and i can prolly only get like 4000 for my car b/c it has like 99,000 miles I def dont have enogh money for a TSi AWD 97 or higher and the car insurance would be like 5000 a year so the hell with it.. plus i put soo much money into it appearncae wise...
..and does power brakign hurt your brakes at all and is my car faster with overdrive on or off???

When I race I power brake to get the boost built up. I keep it in drive and just let it go. Just dont worry about what other people want you to do with your car. YOU DECIDE!

well, you could spend more then $2000 to get a turbo model with the money you get from your nt, or just use that $2000 to make it as fast as the car you want to buy.

you went to route 66? i was just there friday for the NHRA racing. that was sweet

You ran a quote between an ESI and TSI? Because in this state, they are rated the same. And an automatic 420A is not going to win many street races. Them's the facts.

yea I go to 66 all the time :thumb: That's actually the track my gsx runs on regularly ... the only other one I have ever took it to was 41 for the street car chaos thing.

I agree with you that you could just spend the extra money it would cost to get a nice turbo model and turbo the n/t, but here is the thing. Once you turbo the n/t 14s are within reach. I'll even say it's a tad faster than a stock gst or gsx but the problem is it ends there. Unless you plan to build the engine up with forged internals to raise the boost 13s seem to be the limit. ( high 13 if that ) If he were to spend the extra even 3k lets say he'd have a car that car run 13s with free mods and another $1000 MAX. From there the possibilities are endless, and 12s can be had with a $600 turbo and $300 injector upgrade and an safc if need be.

I'm not saying the n/t models are crap or anything like that ( I own one as well :shhh: ) but it depends on where your goals are. If you want to be able to lay down a 14.5 and be happy just turbo the n/t and be done with it. Heck even do bolt ons and spray a 75 shot with some nice tires. If you want to run 12s or even faster on a daily basis then a turbo model is the way to go. And eventually you'll hit that point where awd is VERY nice to have.

Whatever you choose to do good luck, but if your goals are faster than a consistant mid/high 14 I'd look into a gsx or even gst. Talons seem to be cheaper than eclipses and I have been able to find 1995 tsi awds in perfect shape for 5k.

yea in both IL and MI my quotes for a n/t to turbo difference were MINIMAL.
