ok i bought a 1g awd laser, it has a s16g w/ported housing, turbonetics wastegate w/2.5inch dumptube, uicp, stock 1g bov, 3inch turbo back with no cat, 550cc injectors, walbro re-wired 255lph fuel pump, and an afpr set to around 40 psi and dawes devices mbc

i bought my car about a month ago with all these mods, except for the boost controller.

when ever i would race the car would do great. then after a couple more runs it would feel slow at full boost, when i got my boost controller on i turned it up to about 17 psi it feels even slower.

right now i have it set to 13 psi

it hits 13 psi during the day and at night when its cooler out it will get up to about 15, but it feels slow at full boost, i dont think the clutch is slipping because the rpms rise up normally, if not a lil bit slower than normal, and sometimes in 2nd gear at full boost it does this, but i can feel it getting a bit more power, then it will go back to being slow.

i made a diy intercooler sprayer when i was bored the other day and it seemed to help drastically, could it be i am just pulling timing? or a boost leak, even though my boost gauge says 15 psi?

oh and it has a 2g maf, and a spec stage 2 clutch

If you think you might be pulling the timing off then get some kind of logging, it will help you immensely in the future even if it doesnt help now. Its relatively easy to check for a boost leak so just make the leak detector and go to the vfaq for more info. If you aren't leaking boost(I would check that before buying logging equipment) then but the logger, and then post your results.

my friend has a boost leak tester, ill probably test it tommarow, since im workin all day today.

im also gonna buy a logger tonight, just cuz they are very usefull.

i dont think its leaking cuz its only slow sometimes, like last night i beat a 350z by at least 3/4's of a car, then later on a talon esi tried messing with me and i can hardly pull on him

I wouldnt rule out the boost leak so fast. My car I know has a leaky intercooler as of late and Ive noticed that first thing in the morning it'll
run awsome hittin 12lbs with no problems. But once it warms up outside or the turbo gets real hot then I start loosing power. My car wont boost past 7lbs when its hot. Im begining to suspect I might have a problem with my CAS aswell and that could have something to do with the spuratic timing issues ive got. Anyway. something to check into eh?
mike

P.S. sorry I tend to ramble

You are probably just heat soaking the intercooler & getting knock.

16g+sidemount intercooler+hot weather= heat soak, knock, timing getting pulled and loss of power.

Get a fmic or dont do back to back runs when its really hot out.

thanks everyone, my datelogger should be here soon, i have a fmic that i was gonna use for my old car, i just need to get some silicone couplings(next pay check). and i still havnt gotten around to the boost leak tester

agreed get a fmic do wonders for your 16g

got a pocket logger last night, im knockin like a mofo. i think its mostly phantom knock, i did a run last night and i was getting around 33 counts of knock, then today jsut driving around down i was checking it out and it would jump up around 43 counts, i usually do not rev past 3k rpms when driving intown and i had no boost at this time, just vacumn.

on my way to work today i did a pull from 4k in 2nd to about 5.7k in 3rd, i was getting about 11-14 counts of knock while accelerating in 2nd gear, when i let off the throttel to shift i got 0 counts, and when i started gettin on it again it shot up to about 25 at 4.5k then as i kept on going in 3rd it slowly dropped and by the time my turn came and i left off the throttle it was around 21.

in 2nd gear while accelerating my timing the whole time was 12 to 15 and went up to 17 right before i shifted. then shot up to 45 as the rpms went down for the shit and the knock was at zero at this time also. in 3rd gear the knocks were at 8 to 12 the whole time, then went up to about 14 at the end of the run then went to 45 when i let off the throttle and they dropped slowly as the engine rpms dropped.

how do you transfer logs to the computer using mmcd?

ill do a 3rd gear pull from low rpms tonight and try to get the results to you guys. tommarow night ima get some 112 octane fuel and see if it affects the knock at all.

im also gonna pull off my boost controller, the car runs 11 or 12 psi just off the wastegate

oh and my o2 front said 2.30v the whole time

O2 sensors go bad so replace yours, your car will run much smoother and your gas mileage will be normal.
