Slips out of gear

Ok, I was going down the highway, and I was messing with my cruise control. It never worked to begin with but for some reason I always try, and the RPM's rev up which catches my attention and I realize the car has slipped out of 5th without any noise. Just a smooth shift out.

Is this a problem? Will it hurt anything? Or is my car haunted?

Usually when you are at or close to WOT and it slips out, it is time for a new clutch. Just keep an eye out if it does that again.

or a tranny rebuild.....my 99 had to have to tranny rebuilt just before i bought it cause it kept slippin outta 5th gear ....the previous owner got fed up w/ it and sold it...dealer rebuilt tranny...i bought it...runs perfect

If WOT = wide open throttle thats not the case I'm just cruising along at 70.

thats odd, but sounds nothing like the clutch.... it sounds like a bad synchro...or one that is going bad..my 4th pops out sometimes if i dont hold it in gear until i let the clutch out completely.

Yea, My 4th will sometimes pop out and I was wondering how I can prevent that aswell.

My 5th pops out, but it does it with a noise, and definatly not smooth... is this bad?

if 5th gear pops out it can be an easy fix. There was a vfaq on it a while ago. Sometimes the 36mm nut i belive it is will get loose and cause 5th to pop out. You can check it by taking the case off the tranny where 5th gear is and see if the nut is tight or not.

Also to the person with the 4th gear problem that could be a sycro or if it comes out right after you put it in, a worn shift fork.

Thats funny i just swaped transmissions and my already slips out of first until i let the clutch out. It doesnt really bother me to much though

How much are new syncros, because my tranny is the same but much worse.
i start the car
i put it in reverse
i put it in 1st gear ( sometimes it doesnt even want to go into 1st)
i let up on the clutch and give a bit of gas
the gear pops out and now im trying to put it back in and it grinds.
now everyone is looking at me.

very embarassing!

and in 2nd gear i have to yank really hard to get it into 2nd, i called a few places and they gave me an estimate of about 800bucks for new syncros, where can i buy them and how easy are they to install?

please you gotta help me , yea and it does this every single time!!!!! i dont trust it!

I know not the best thing to bring this thing back from the dead. But I finally got around to figuring out the problem, 3rd has a bad syncro due to the rice boy before me doing his mad tyte jdm shifting. 5th was popping out due to the shifter bushings.

My car has started doing the same thing. Only in 5th, and not all the time, but when it does start, I cant even get two miles then its popping out again.

Open the end of the transmission and tighten the 2 big nuts
