Car has been driving perfect then took about hour and a half drive on the free way, had to get on it threw an intersection or two ### i got a little lost now i'm getting some bag slipping in first and second gear. i thought it was the clutch so i replaced it with an ACT sprung 6 puck with extreme pressure plate ( a 2900 i believe it's called in DSM land). i replaced slave as well.

well to no avail the slipping is still there, i'm wondering if it is the diff in the tranny. tranny still feels great, does not kick out of any gear, shifts fine (as good as a old stock tranny does that is LOL). maybe a Tcase. i'm pretty lost i on what would make it slip like that. sometimes it seems like it wants to grab in the high rpms in first or second but i dont run it up there since i know there is something wrong obviously.

runs great on freeway still. cruising at 100 in 5th no problem, just seems 1st and 2nd and maybe a little bit of 3rd cant hold it together. thanks for the help

It would seem to me that if the transfer case went bad that the car would still have front wheel drive though I understand the viscous may be creating an imbalance in power distribution and may act like a slipping clutch?

also check the cv joints

The transfercase is just two gears, so it can't really 'slip', and if it was bad you just would have front wheel drive. If it's something with the viscous, they are cheap and you only have to pull the cover off to put one in. Definitely do it yourself, if you are capable of changing your own oil or rotating your tires you can change a viscous.

Are you sure your clutch is adjusted correctly? Most people have their clutch adjusted totally wrong. Go to jackstransmission and watch his clutch adjustment video.

yes i know that a manuel transmission cant slip, anyway. the cv axles looked to check out good when i had them out during the clutch replacment. the way it slips in 1st and second makes it feel like the clutch for sure but 3rd 4th and 5th hold no traits of that. ive had a slipping clutch before and boost at free speeds usually punish the clutch but my car is great on the freeway when it's 4th or 5th gear.

The reason i thought it was tcase or diff is because my buddy drove his car like 4 miles without his driveshaft on and it slipped crazy since it was trying tranfer tourque to the rear. seems pretty similar to to that.
And i assumed it was not clutch adjustment because it has been fine for the last 7 onths then it suddenly started happening. and with the new clutch engagement i really close to the floor. And no i dont have an extended clutch rod.

To eliminate any chance of a hydro. system problem you should disable it, unbolt the slave. Then give it a try with a dry start and see if it slips. i had a clutch master hold pressure so it was like the pedal would not release, even after adjustment.

Did you resurface the flywheel when you installed the new clutch? Did you adjust the pedal assembly? Is the clutch fork in the center of opening on the bell housing?

Curious as well?
Did you check drain your tcase fluid and check for shavings, fluid level? In my experience a bad transfer case will usually whine pretty good when decelerating and when it gets really bad it will lock up. You may want to take the transfer case off for a second and run the car on jackstands just to verify the tcase shaft on the trans is functioning. If its not obviously you know its centerdiff/viscous related

yes the flywheel was resurfaced. this started suddenly, car was great suddenly started slipping a bit after i had to punch it across a street so i wouldnt get hit. at the time it sounded like the front driver side wheel broke lose a lil bit but not sure, the radio was up loud. i'll try the slave thing and jacking the car up and pulling tcase.

so the axles checked out good other then a small tear in one of the right outside boots but that is minimal. after the slipping didn't stop i thought i would drive around and listen for tranny/tcase noise. normal speed everything checks good but when i ran the rpms up in 2nd (between 4000 and 5200 when i let off) i heard a kind of rattle sound. sounded like it was from in the tranny. not only that i could feel it trying to catch on itself from what i assume is the diff or viscous trying to engage but cant. gus i'll have to pull trans and let you know.

Old thread but,
Did you ever find out what your problem was?
I'm having similar symptoms; the climbing of rpm's with no go etc. I have checked everything on the clutch and flywheel everything seems good as well. I get a spinning/ clunking/ type of noise in first and second.
