broken spline diff, tcase, clutch?

after installing a used transmission i found this piece of metal with splines on it like 3 feet away from my car. It looks the same as the output on the tcase ( the hollow end). But i checked and mine is in perfect condition. So either it fell out of the used transmission when i brought it to my garage or the center diff or clutch splines broke
