The axle seal on the passenger side got slightly damaged when I was removing the stupid axle. It didn't damage the inner portion, only the very outer edge which I can only assume is to try to help keep dust out. Question is, do I need to replace it? This things been giving me hell trying to get the axle out and then I screwed it up a bit....

thanks

You can just wait too. I had a torn boot on my passenger front side for over 2 years before it started to click. Just pack some grease in there every so often because when it's open it's easier for the grease to come out so it eventually fails. El Gaupo is right though you may as well just replace it, but if you don't feel like doing it then just let it go for awhile. You'll know when it really needs it by the noise LOL.

Just think if you had replaced the boot the CV joint would have laster a lot longer than 2 years and you wouldn't have been cleaning grease off your wheels.

However, the seals here are to keep the oil in your trans. And waiting for it to fail because of a $5 seal seems like a bad idea.

Boy spending $30.00 for a BOOT doesn't sound as smart as a couple of hundred for an axle does it. Let it click till it fails.:nono: As far as the seal. If you dont replace it now and you install the axle, drive down the road and it leaks guess what. You get to take it all back apart for something that costs $10.00 and takes 20 minutes to replace because you are already there. Your choice.

No no, I am talking about the axle seal. Both axle boots were already torn in half when I bought the car for 400 buckaroos, so I already bought new ones from Raxles. I got the passenger side axle/CV assembly out alraedy, and in the process I damaged the seal on the very outer lip (the inside ring and mating service looks and feels dandy). I probably should just replace it......do i tear it outta there with a flat tip screwdriver like most seals or is there some sort of nifty trick to get them out?

thanks

Most of us understood what you were talking about.

I used a seal puller but a flat screwdriver will work as long as your careful not to scratch the case removing the seal.

one more question, can the local autozone or parts plus be trusted for a good axle seal? I am just hoping I don't have to order one in at the mitsu dealer :|

Thanks!

Iwould replace it unless u like the red stuff,(transmission fluid)everywhere....nNt the difficult just take a screwdriver and pop it out, and take a short block of wood and a small hammer and tap all the way around the seal.

this is just a national number for the seals. driver side national number is 759042. passenger side number is 710199. this is for a 90-94 manual awd transmission. it took me 4 day of ordering seals at the parts store where i live to learn that, there also on extreme psi if you want to do it the easy way:D

Its a manual for suresies. I'll just order the new seals. Thanks everyone and thanks much for the part number and reference to where I can get them quickly online ;)

cheers ya'll
