Drivers side. Can I replace it without dropping the tranny? Just going to take off the transfer case and pop the old one out and hammer the new one in. Should I drop the tranny or attempt to put it in with it in the car?

Don't need to drop the transmission or transfer case.

Just jack up the car securely (drain trans fluid, of course), take out the driveaxles (I would do both seals, to prevent a future headache), CAREFULLY pry out the seal with a large screwdriver/prybar. Clean up the area. You just press in/drive in the new seal into the hole using a large pipe section or a large socket. Drive it in squarely and very carefully. Make sure you lube the lip of the seal before putting the axles back in.

Well see heres the problem, when i dropped the tranny to replace the clutch fork, the passenger axle seal WOULD NOT come out, so i just took it out with the axle still in it. ROFL so hopefully that one doesnt leak, cause i used everything in my garage to try and get that thing out. Thanks for the info. Should I just lube up the whole seal? or which lip are you talking about, the part thats on the outside of the tranny or the part you push in.

Lip = the inner diameter of the seal, so you don't destroy it when you slide that driveaxle in. I would lube the entire thing. Lubing things up prevents them from drying out prematurely.

That sounds dirty. ROFL

I'm going thru the exact ame thing with the passenger axle seal I'm having a hella time getting it out. I'm changing both my axles. .. also are both sides on the tranny seals the same part#?? cus the passenger one from the outside looks diff than the driver side and I ordered a(right?/left?) before starting just incase I needed a seal but it looks like the same as the drivers and not the pass. Thanks

Here's a better perspective, they're both oil seals:

Axle seal replacement procedure (you need to get one of these books for yourself--Haynes Repair Manual):
yeah I got a haynes manual... I just got done looking I never have looked thru the 5-speed section (got an auto). and I see its in there. alright I see the pic in the manual has them using a prybar. I just never would of thought have to use a freakin prybar to remove a seal :) I just didn't want to mess something up and it seemed like it was getting extreme to get the thing out... but tomorrow I'll try the prybar. Im going to do more research on the part#'s on the seals. I got a MD707184 and I need to make sure it will work for the passenger cus it looks more like the drivers side seal.

Best tool that anyone has laying around their garage to get these out, is a simple old claw hammer. Works beautifully.

Cheers.
