Well I been doing alot of research and cant seem to find whats the best tire size for this rim

Right now i have 5zigen 15x6.5 inch rim with a 40mm offset the 3 tire sizes im thinking about right now is

24.5 x 8 x 15
or
26 x 8.5 x 15
or
26 x 9 x 15

help im really hoping the 26x9 will fit this rim but decided to ask on here!

id get the 24.5x8x15, because your rim is only 6.5inches wide and thats the least wide tire of the 3, plus its a good size for plenty of power, how much power are u making, no need to get a size too big when it wont be to your advantage if your not making enough power to need a bigger slick.

im making 630hp. thats why I been leaning to some bigger sizes as well

do you think the 8.5 or 9 would fit ?

I would say the 9's are little wide for that wheel, but I'm sure someone is doing it. 630hp.........you better run the 26's.

i just picked up a set of 15x7 wheels w/ a MT 24.5x8x15 slick ;) but mines going on a 2G

how can i know for sure i can squeeze a 26x9 on that rim? i got a good deal on tires but down want to lay the money out if it wont work :(

What are you reving it to?

24.5" slicks are good for 160mph traps, less weight, and better 60's.

On our 156mph trap last season we came through around 9200rpms I believe.

Wouldn't the larger sidewall on a 26" be more beneficial? I'm just trying to learn here. I understand the 24.5" would be less wieght and be like "gearing" the car, but doesn't the larger sidewall'd 26" count for something on a 600+whp car?

The larger sidewall sill create less shock on the drivetrain during launch. That is about it other than being able to get a higher top speed with them over the 24.5" tire.

I am going with a 24.5" tire and would recommend you do the same for reasons already mentioned.

I dont entirely understand why everyone says to go with the 24.5" though. It seems its just a trade off between being easier on the drivetrain during launch or having lighter tires. Shouldn't the 26" provide smoother launches and good 60fts? Sorry if I'm missing it but I haven't seen a clear good reason to choose 24.5

The car will accelerate quicker with the 24.5" tire. It is like taking a camaro or mustang and taking out the stock 3.2X gears and putting in 4.10 gears. This is because of the smaller overall diameter. And also since they are lighter you will get more power to the ground.

Your also forgetting about leverage. A taller tire puts MORE strain on the drivetrain because of leverage, and is more likely to break parts like axles and rearends.

You don't need anything taller than a 24.5" tire unless your running 170mph+ traps or can't rev the bi*** over 8k.

So if infact you cannot rev past 8k, then 26 would be a good choice? Or is it still more worth it to get 24.5?

I'm having a hard time making my mind understand that a nice 26" big cushy sidewall isn't ideal when I'm looking for a hard launch, and that a 24" would be a better choice.

Depends on what mph you are going to be running also. I would bet you will want the 24.5's over the 26's though.

You have to look at all the factors. Yes the sidewall will make the launch slightly easier on the drivetrain but the extra weight that has to be turned will make it harder on the drivetrain. So, they kind of cancel eachother out. The added weight might even make the launch harder since the launch is already going to be pretty soft with the 24.5" tires over street tires.
