So here's the deal. I got a dejon intake but i hate how the couplers they sent barely fit the wastegate on my 14b. I'm debating on what to do with this. I want something that will fit better on my turbo, and it looks as though i need a 2.75-2.25 reducer. Should i just leave the rubber dejon sends or should i get a nice silicone reducer from hightemp or sbr?

So those are my 3 options. Stick with the rubber weird fit one, Get the cheaper sbr (which i know nothing about), or get the nice 4ply hightemp one.

If i remember correctly i can't link directly to MY intake. BUT, i will bring up the 1g intake page from dejon and give you the "model" i got.

OK so i can't link to their intake section at all (it's all flash) but it's model CIP-1gM, with the 2.75" at the turbo. The dejon has decent couplers, but they're just high temp rubber hose. I want silicone for the simplicity and the look (much better than the hose).

Use this guy, he is local here to me but I still ordered on-line. My order went out next day and was really good service. His prices are hard to beat too.

Travislaw, how does his stuff compare to a company like hightemp? The couplers look nice, and they're a bit cheaper than hightemp.

DarenP, thank you for letting me know for sure what i needed size-wise for my turbo inlet. I couldn't find anyone who knew "for sure". Rep for you!

To be honest I haven't bought one of his couplers, although I would have had I known about it when I ordered mine. It would have saved me $10. I looked at the specs on it and they seem identical to the hose I bought and mine are holding up great. His site says the hoses can handel up to 50 psi of pressure and that his car is running 24 psi with no problems. Like I said, I like the fact he is in town, cause if I ever have problems, I know where he lives. ;)
 
I personally would ghet a hightemp silicone coupler. Yes, they are a bit mroe expensive but they are a better product. It it is just an intake they any coupler will do, but I will be replacing my lame one with a hightemp silicone one for looks and it will match my other couplers.
 
Thanks boostedinaz, thats what i wanted to hear. I will be getting the hightemp 2.25-2.75" reducer, as well as picking up some for my uicp. What size outlet is the stock smic, is it 2" or 2.25"? I know my uicp reduces already at the IC but i don't have time to check today (it's all rainy and pooie).

Your choice is your choice but people shouldn't go knocking on things they haven't used themselves saying one product is better than an another. As a quote from the web site "...these silicone hoses are designed to withstand temperatures of up to 392* F." Just putting my .02 in.

I know this may be hard for some DSM owners to understand but not all of us want the cheapest thing that will get the job done. Some of us actually like our products to match and look better even if it cost us a bit more.

Sometimes, especially with something as simple and easy as a coupler, you don't have to use it to see that one is better then the other. You quoted temp rating so I figure I will do the same,

Understandable. Like I said before, it all comes to a personal preferance and what you are expecting to do with the system. I really meant no disrespect. I would love to be able to afford quality well known parts. But I have already dropped $6,000 just to get my car running. I bought it from a lying sack of crap as well as having horrible problems with three shops in town causing me to buy not needed parts and blowing up my engine. (Which is why I do all my own work now.)
 
Hah, my car was a disaster when i got it too. My flywheel almost blew off, water pump blew up, turbo lines were dead, suspension is terrible, tranny is kinda ok, but the motor likes to eat oil, breaks were shot and tires were almost bald. But i wanted a stupid turbo dsm.

Oh well, i still love the bi***. Anyone have an answer to my intercooler in/out pipe size question?
 
I love this forum. I was looking at the 2G Dejon intake pipes, too, but my FP Big28 has the 2.25" (I thought it was 2.125" :confused: ) compressor inlet, and all of the Dejon pipes had 2.75" minimum outlets. Looks like there's still hope!

One question I have is if the reducer shifts the filter closer to the passenger side very much (adds length to the intake pipe). I have a K&N FIPK ready to install and solid UICP coming in the mail, and I don't know how much room I have to play with. The coupler can't be too abrupt of a change, or you'll restrict flow, but if it's a more gradual reduction - and longer - then it might shift the filter/MAS so much that it interferes with the UICP or requires major FIPK bracket tweaking.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks!
 
my dejon intake and uicp fits pretty damn tight. But i think the reducer will actually let it fit easier without complication with the WG actuator. Thats my theory at least, because the reducers are only 3" total length. Which isn't very long. And i highly doubt a reducer would cause that much turbulance with a hard intake pipe either.

Stock ic pipes are a puny 1.75" ROFL The reducer is probably a smoother transition than the step left by the piece of hose in the other piece of hose, I.M.h.O.
 
So alright, Im going with hightemp for all my couplers/reducers (all in black to offset my red intake and uicp though).

I do have another question though. If im going to do nice silicone i might as well do it all my vac lines too. I've been reading about the Larson vac hose kit from RRE and it looks great (and it's only 40 bucks) but then hightemp also has a few kits the offer on their site of different sizes and lengths of line. My question is in turn then, which kit is better? Hightemp's looks great but it's kinda expensive (depending on the kit) and i havn't read anything bad about the larson kit, but i wanna make sure whichever kit i pick up will not pinch or collapse or blow up or off. (I can't believe i'm mildly ricing my engine bay)

I didn't buy the Larson kit but I did by the vacuum lines them selves and they are very nice. They are very thick so they won't colapse and very pliable. I had a big 10mm line thet had to make a sharp 90 degree bedn and it hasn't kinked yet.

I was going to get them from somewhere else but Road Race has always shipped to me when they say they will and that is more then I can say for ay other companies I have dealt with.
 
Again, exactly what i wanted to hear. So it's hightemp couplers and RRE's kit. Maybe this will help pull my rating on ratemydsm up from a 2. Which i really don't understand, but thats another story and another thread.
 
Ok, i went to get couplers and reducers, and they're ALL out of stock. Except the reducer. I'm going to get the larson hose kit, so i was wondering how RRE's couplers and reducers compare to hightemps. And for some reason i can't find the right t-bolt clamps for my silicone either.

This is turning into a major chore, and i'm not pleased. I'm pretty close to getting RRE's stuff for all i need and just calling it a day. But i wanna make sure it's all going to be good. I know i need 2.75-2.25 which RRE doesn't have, will any of their reducers fit alright? And my ICP is dejon's 2.5" so i need a 2.5" coupler right? I feel stupid for asking a lot of this, but i wanna make sure all my pipes are sealing right and i'm getting not leaks (vac or boost).

(Also, are t-bolt clamps really necessary on silicone? or will work gear ones work ok?)
 
Ok, Diamondstarmotorsports has turbonetics couplers and a "vibrant performance" vac hose kit. How is the vibrant performance kit?

And i also found a place on ebay that is a distrubitor for hightemp, but havn't looked for hose's yet.
 
I'm using worm-gear type clamps, but they are a "shielded" style so the silicone can't sqwoosh though the little slots, which seems to be one of the reasons not to use that style clamp. I'm also not running a whole lot of boost (yet), as high boost may be another reason to use a t-bolt style. As for the ICP which one do you mean, & what do you want to couple it to?
 
UICP i mean, sorry. It is 2.5" i need for that i know now.

I'm just at a loss for where to get this shit from. Turbonetics stuff looks good, but expensive. And high temp is out ### their stuff is all out of stock. If i could just get everything from RRE that would be great. I shot them an e-mail so we'll see what they say. But if anyone else knows please chime in.
