Should I Take The 2G?

Hey, I've run into a strange dilemma. My grandfather has a 98 Eclipse GST Spyder, which is automatic, and is in AMAZING running condition. He has told me that once I graduate it's mine. I've always loved that car, I've grown up working on it, but now that I realize that trying to mod/upgrade an automatic car isn't really worth it, I'm beginning to question if I should get it or not, if I take it, it's free and I know it will run perfect. Or should I shell out some dough and just go get myself a manual transmission car? Thanks!

don't question a free car. especially since you know it's good. take it and drive it as is til you have the money to buy one that you want to build.

Check out import performance transmissions they can build you a tranny that will hold anything you want to throw at it. They built me one and its been a champ. I have run up to 32lbs of boost at an estimated 480hp and its solid as the day I bought it.

If this is going to be your only car In my oppinion take an auto anyway. The pleasure of driving a stick is short lived with more and more cars on the road everyday. Beef up a manual tranny throw in a stage 3 clutch to handle the power and then drive in rush hour traffic for an hour. There is a good chance you will wish you had the auto then.

Like everyone else says, take it. If you don't like it after a while, you could always sell it and get the one you want. If it were me, I'd keep the Spyder atleast until I got a career. It's a free car without payments.

Who says auto isnt worth modding? Remember that with an auto you dont have to worry about missing a shift and it isnt nearly as hard on the drivetrain as a manual when racing because your not loading and unloading the power when you launch and shift!

See I disagree with the whole driving an auto thing. I mean its totally up to the driver, but rush hour traffic is the funnest thing to drive through. When I drive a automatic I find myself day dreaming and bored. Also I find myself on the rumble strips with the gas pedal to the floor to keep me not so bored.

I say take the free car, and swap a tranny. Tranny swaps are easy. Just take your time on them.

but i would take it until you have money to waste. take my word its nicer to have money than a nice car. Just keep surfing autotrader until you find something that is a steal but until then keep the freebie

I have a 96 sypder gst auto. I have all the parts in the back yard for a manual awd swap just waiting on the money to buy the few needed parts for the install (IE: fuel lines, fuel pump, few other odds and ends). I have a whole parts car but figure while the tank was out might as well put a pump in it. Upgrade the fuel lines ect.

Get the car you can allways go manual or even gsx when the transmission goes or even both.

Totally agree. It is a free car. Just take your time and put the money, you are saving from not having to buy a new/different car, into a tranny swap or somthing!

i agree take it look at this way you can save money then in the end sell/trade for what you want and then with then with the money you saved up depending on how much mod the fcuk out it haha

this question shouldn't even be asked if I could get a free car any car I'd take it as for you do a awd 5spd swap you wouldn't even spend nearly as much as buying another car plus then you'd have a awd 5spd spyder. Take it now and run!!!
