We got a car in at work today...a '95 Eagle Talon TSI (AWD), it's got a sunroof, power seats, windows etc. The TSI has a little under 68,000 miles on it, and I had a mechanic look at it, and he said it looks pretty good. Here's the kicker, its about $2200 out the door...the only thing noticably wrong? Paint. I don't really care about that though.

How long could I expect this car to last? It seems to be running good now, the only thing that I found that was wrong was it idled at 3000 rpm for some reason (only a few times) after pulling at the throttle cable/hitting the gas, it is fine now...so I guess it just got caught on something. The car seems to have had the oil changed on time, and generally well maintained, aside from the paint, which is completely oxidized. Should I go for this? How is insurance on these also?

Yeah. Go for a drive and tell me where that $15,000 difference is.

I've driven the Talon, no doubt it's a much more fun car to drive. The $15000? Probably in reliability, quality of materials/workmanship, and the fact that its almost 10 years newer. I'm not some honda fanboy...I know what my car is, it's transportation, it's fun to drive, but it's slow.

Believe me when I say this, it's in the seat of the pants.

Most people that get a Talon, are hooked on boost after about 1 week. Good luck in fighting off that demon...most members here have tried for years to avoid buying just "one more turbo" or something else that goes on thier car. It's a big responsibility to maintain an older car, everything will break given enough time/use. Just treat her right, and she won't leave you cold and in the rain (that often....).

;)

i feel you there evanl85. even though the civic is a CIVIC after all, its no beater. you're right, it's newer, has a warranty, and gets more than 30 mg :p cant really beat that.

what i'd say to do is not have the talon as a daily driver, but a weekend warrior. shiiiiiet, drive the civic mon-friday.. then the talon during the weekend. plus it'd be a nice project car. cause you'll be on you're way to a tdo5h/t3t4 in no time OMG ;)

I'm still learnin the whole dsm thing, but seriously if you dont buy this car for yourself, buy it and sell it to someone on here. (ME) If everything checks out, and even if it doesnt buy it swap a 6 bolt in there and have no worries about crankwalk, all for about 5 or 6 grand at the most. Serioiusly if you dont buy it for yourself buy it and then sell it to me, i'll come up and get it asap.

Bullshit - Once you drive the Talon the Honda WILL BE the beater.

damn strait... I have more money in parts and the car itself than the civic is worth... many of us do? ^^;;; Why you ask? because we love the fun the DSM brings :thumb: .

Hehe soon you will join us in our craziness. BWauahahaha as the guys have said its all about the first taste.

First time I drove an AWD Talon, I was in love, I actually bought the car the next day. Taking it out for a test drive, on a nice day, I had all the windows down and the sunroof open. I tried to burn out (Launched at like...6500 or so RPM's) and all I heard was a chirp and my exhaust screaming louder and louder and I started to build boost, shifted to second really hard...I tried several times...and I couldn't chirp them. This is probably why I had so many problems when I first bought it ;) but it's all worth it.
