Should i dyno tune?

Short answer: Yes, you should tune.... but the dyno isn't necessary.

Do you have anything to tune with? I didn't see anything on your profile.

Most people on here will tell you that tuning is everything. I suggest you get dsmlink. (Or an safc and pocket logger if money is tight). With DSMLink you can tune for yourself and it has a fairly consistent HP/Torque calculator built in so you can skip the dyno and save some money there.

If you're turning up the boost at all from stock you will definitely need these tools to tune and watch for knock. Also, the stock injectors can only take you to a certain psi and any bigger injectors will require tuning for your car to idle/run properly.

EDIT: It really depends on how much boost you're planning on running. If you're running stock boost then the fuel trims will be the same and you can do without the tune for now. Personally I'm running only 10lbs on my EvoIII 16g because I don't have the necessary tools to tune and I'm scared to death of knock. (not to mention I'm still dealing with drivability issues) I need a pocket logger or something so I know what's going on in my engine. I've been doing a lot of research and DSMLink really seems like the best way to go if you can afford it.

It also depends on what he is trying to do with the car as well. You dont need DSMlink to tune, but some people swear by it. I run a SAFC and MAFT but im also not looking for a ten second ride. But DBorderX's post was very helpful.

DBorderX's post post was right on, another option besides dsm link is mafpro, using speed density has its advantages

Agreed, DSM Link isn't necessary by any means, just very very good at what it does.

I have the SAFC-2 in my car now and if I had a datalogger it would be fine for most of what I would want to do. I still want all the bells and whistles of DSM Link though :thumb:

Whats the point, tune the car on the street cause thats where its gonna see the most time. Once you are fully tuned to your liking. Then dyno it to see you whp.

I was just saying if he has money to toss around why not. The best way to get max power is on a dyno hands down.

How is he going to "dyno tune" it. It doesn't look like he has any tuning tools or ways to tell the ECU what to do yet.

another really good tuning option on a tight budget is dsmap. You'll need to socket your ecu just like with dsmlink though, basicly it uses and eprom EMULATOR(important) such as ostrich from here http://www.moates.net/product_info.php?cPath=50&products_id=169 and a gm 3bar map sensor as well as gm ait sensor.

the emulator plugs into the socket and is connected to a laptop via usb. the sensors are wire directly into the your maf harness. or you can buy fullthrottlespeedtechs plug and play harness found here http://www.fullthrottlespeed.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=050SD1G. you can run a palm os emulator on the your laptop and use the a logger program on that. here is the link to dsmap http://www.ds-map.net/phpBB3/.

all in all this will cost are 275 without a wide band so figure an lc-1 is 199 your looking at 475. dsmlink without a wide band is 545( i also didn't factor in the cost of laptop as those can be had for a number of different prices.) if you feel up to it take a look. once I save up enough money to get everthing inluding a wideband and laptop I'll be switching over to speed density using dsmap for I just have to settle with burning my chip(its reflashable!)

on a side note though I am not dogging dsmlink it's a great program but it don't have speed density as of yet and the tuning ability of dsmap is higher, dsmlink still has the best logging though!
