Shortening shifter

Hi everyone. I have been searching on this for a while and found a great write up by mini zilo on changing the stock auto shifter. In his thread he didn't shorten the length of the shift lock cable. I'm wanting to put a shift knob in place of my stock auto shifter. But i don't know if it's safe to cut the shift lock cable and have it work properly. Any info will be greatly appreciated thanks

I'm assuming you are tired of the stock look. I know that it is possible to do that, but you will save yourself a lot of headache leaving it alone. Sorry I know you are just looking for an answer, just wanted to give my two cents.
