My clutch pedal in this 1g seems to have a rather short travel distance.

It is only 1/3rd of what my 2g was and well my last 1g came with an XTD Stage 3 clutch and pressure plate. There was not much travel distance on that but it was more than this one.

Could this be something with the actual pedal?

The guy I got the car from included a clutch/brake pedal assembly and said something about it being wielded though I really had no clue wtf he was talking about.

1G's have an issue where the nut inside the clutch pedal assembly comes loose, causing short pedal travel. You can either get a medium length 14mm socket and tighten the bolt inside the tube of the clutch pedal (just above the accelerator pedal, or swap it out for the welded assembly.

I voted for tightening mine, replacing the assembly is real tough unless you are limber

I will probably go the tightening route as I am really not limber at all. I will probably get out there and look for the nut after the sun goes down a bit, unless anyong can snap me a pic.

If not I will get a pic with my droid when I am out there.

You wont see the nut. It is inside the tube that the Clutch pedal rotates on. If you put a finger inside it (above the gas pedal), you will be able to feel it. I used a 14mm 6-point socket on a 1/4" drive ratchet. I just cranked on it till I got tired. Has held firm for 9 months
