Shocks springs GST to GSX

Quick question about fitment, will shocks and struts from a GST fit in a GSX?


in other words will Tokico Illumina Shocks & Eibach Sportline from a GST fit in my GSX? I search aournd and found that the AWD rears are abit stiffer due to the drivetrain, but since the Illumina shocks are adj I was thinking I would just stiffen up the rear abit more to make up the diffrence

altho I'm hoping someone could confirm this

Yes, they'll fit, but you really don't want softer springs in the rear. Your car understeers enough as it is. And upping the damping is not the same thing as increasing the spring rate; that won't undo the damage you'll be doing to the car's handling.

Springs are what determine the steady-state distribution of weight transfer. If you soften the rear, you will move the car towards more steady-state understeer.

Shocks control the springs so they help determine how quickly weight-transfer has an effect on grip, so you could try to get some of your turn-in back my upping the damping, but then you'll also get some skitter, since Illuminas adjust rebound and compression at the same time.

All in all, I would not do this. Putting AWD springs on a wrong-wheel-drive makes sense, but not the opposite.
 
Why take advice from people who has not done it??? I've done it.. and i haven't even have one little problem with under steer or blah, blah, blah. Yes 2g GST suspension ( kyb Gr2 and sunk2 coilovers )onto 2g GSX. if you have it already do it.. but if you have to buy it. Get the correct ones for the make and model.

well the reason I'm asking is I found a guy who is selling the set

ideally I would go with the AGX & prokit but with a price tag of $651+ its a bit out of my price range at the moment, I just thought maybe I could pick these up cheap and be done with it.
 
no.. i had a gst i put to stock.. and put all my suspension onto the gsx.

Soooo, you've never done what OP asked about, which makes me want to ask you: "Why take advice from people who has not done it???"

- someone who has done what the OP asked about and didn't like how it turned out
 
This could be a hilarious ending. What year Spyder and/or what color dot is on the springs? White? Orange? The Spyder weighs almost as much as the AWD and, IIRC, the 2Gb Spyder had the same springs as the 2Gb AWD. After all this nonsense, those might be the same rate as OE.

The combination that we were most interested in testing was 2Gb fronts with 2Ga rear, since the 2Ga had higher rates and we wanted to stiffen the rear relative to the front. We then tried all the other combinations, as well, and weren't happy with any of them. Without heavier bars, total roll stiffness was just too low for little changes in springs to help much at all.
 
Spyder's are 50lb-100lb heavier than a GST. I used that theory about same weight as a GSX and bought AWD springs. Too stiff in the rear.
 
Sportlines are for show, not handling. Way too low for their rates. The least expensive way to get a 2G to handle better is a set of Koni Sport shocks. This is one of the few things that DG and I ever agreed on.

edit: to answer your question: yes, you could have an OE shock repaired but it isn't worth it.

What was the give-away? The excessive use of subordinate clauses or the correct grammar? :)

I sold Cinder several years ago and bought an Evo. Switched from pavement to dirt and gravel.

I keep reading that the prokit is for proformance, and the sportline is for looks

which is better?
