Well it has come time for me to address the suspension on my 1995 gsx.. I figure to enjoy the handling of the car it needs respectable suspension.. right now the front have coil overs and the back have shocks and springs.. very clunky, im assuming without looking it is worn shocks or some bad bushings..

Now Im not looking to get 2k dollar coil overs.. just some shocks and springs that will give me a good ride for a spirited daily driver on a reasonable budget.. Now I would love to throw some money to the vendors here if they can come close to this combo that im leaning towards..

Tokico Spring/Shock Kit - ILK - JDM parts: Honda, Toyota, Nissan - Japanese aftermarket and performance car parts 1995-1999 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE

I originally wanted tokico hps with eibach springs but it ends up being like 50 more bucks to do it that way.. and then i wont have adjustable shocks..

any thoughts or suggestions?

You've probably read already, but it's approximately a 1.75" drop. If you're getting it, you'll also need some way to correct the camber in the rear, and you may want to correct the front camber, too.

Otherwise, it's a popular choice.

ExtremePSI has it $10 cheaper. EXTREME PSI : Your #1 Source for In Stock Performance Parts

Ya I saw on here there are a couple of cheap options for fixing the camber on the rear (washers or something like that) and then the front, an adjustable flange of sorts?

would you replace the bushings all the way around, or is that really expensive?

Just want to get all the necessary parts before the project thats all..

Thanks for the time..

Word of caution if you decide to replace your bushings with polyurethane ones. It's generally not recommended to use poly bushings for the upper and lower shock mounts on the front of a 2G. The shock pivots in multiple axis'. Poly's will put stress on the shock rod.

+1 on checking all ball joints when your in there.

If your suspension is clunky, it may very well be a problem with the ball joints... just a heads up I thought my clunky/squeeky suspension was a problem with old and worn shocks/springs. I bet you should be more concerned with your lower and upper balljoints at the moment.. If you research this site you will find dozens of posting about the 2g lower balljoint failure. The balljoint will clunk at first and then over time it will snap off, and just hope your not doing highway speeds when it does, the tire will turn 90 degrees instantly. The squeek in my suspension came from a worn sway bar bushing.

I personally have completed my suspension restoration with all new control arms, balljoints, bushings, with a tokico shock spring combo package. The results are AMAZING, and the car handles like a champ. I have also previously done the RM racing sway bar upgrade which helps. Total cost about $2000 and took about 2 weeks total labour spread over a year, worth every penny.

You can purchase the control arm itself with a factory balljoint pre-installed from oemmitsubishiparts.com for between $50 to $150 each. So, no messing around with boots and the grease, just bolts.

You can tell if the balljoints are loose by jacking up your car, and try to manually turn the wheel by hand back and forth, there should be very little play, and also push in at the top while pullng out at the bottom, and vise versa. You should be able to hear the clunk

Yea I can attest for that, thats exactly how mine went luckily I had already gotten off the highway when mine went.

2,000??? Hows that possible, control arms are what like 65 bucks? shock springs combo like 500-700?? bushings maybe like 200 for entire set or something??...just curious how did that add up to all that? I'm missing something?

To the Op have you ever tried or looked at the megan racing ez coilovers? :
MEGAN EZ COILOVER SUSPENSION 95-99 MIT. ECLIPSE 2G ALL | eBay

I heard good things about them and there full coilovers and not to much more then that other set and they are still adjustable.

They also have another set thats 32-way dampening and its like 800-900.

True, you really do not want those ball joints to go out on you. Luckily mine snapped off while I was pulling into my parking space and the front rested on the tire, but it happened 3 min after getting off the highway, and I just had my drive shafts done 4 days before that and had to have them replace again....so it was a very expensive lesson learned.

I have that sping/shock combo on mine and it rides really nice. I had to shim the rear and i have upper adjustable ball joints and essentrics in the front, I had to put the adjustable ball joints in to get the camber right but a good package if you ask me. I also just did the urethane bushings all the way around. Pretty aggravating but well worth it. Costs like 120$ for the whole kit.

Make sure you get the correct ones for your car. There is a big difference in the rear strut assy.

I love them and also bought them 2+ years ago from extreme.

well the price range was 1k all in.. im looking at:

springs and shocks 575

replacing a torn cv boot 15

front camber kit 60

bushing kit was 200

now im looking at replacing the control arms about 200?

so im already over that and im going to pay about 250 to the mechanic..

so im already over the number..

I dont know about the bushing kit now.. I want a good ride.. I did do some checking and the 64185 bushings are shot in the back for sure.. Which I believe is causing the clanking.. So definitely replacing those.. What Im thinking is just replacing the worn out bushings, because of what I read, going all poly is a pain in the balls to install..

After watching the video about torn cv axles boots, which I have one in the back, like my mechanic said its better to wait for it to fail and its no sense just to replace the boot because of the work involved..

Do I need a camber kit? is the front camber kit from ingalls a replacement for the ball joint issue?

lastly I called the dealership and said there is no recalls on my car.. I should just replace the upper and lower ball joints just to be safe correct?

I got some KYB-2 shocks from a friend for 50$ used, and im very happy with them, especially with the eibach pro drop springs.. Shes a gripper now! just be sure to use a spring compressor and be safe!! Happy new year all! Pm me with any questions, i love to help!

Just want to give a shout out to JNZ tuning.. Paul is a good guy and knows his stuff.. Also saved me from buying some things that I may not of needed..

I just purchased the Tokico illumina shocks and spring combo.. Some sites say its a 1 inch drop, some say 1.75.. (I dont know if its the difference in talons to eclipses or what).. I ordered the rear bushing that always wear out.. And then the recall kits for the front control arm and ball joint..

Im hoping I made a wise decision.. Im confident though..

dont do the camber kit! slam that thing, and get that crazy mad tite camber yo! im joking, seems like a good setup, really good. if only i could fork that kind of dough out for my car.

Well the shocks and springs are now installed as well as the recall kit for the front ball joints, had to replace a front axle, and put in the rear spindle bushings in..

The ride is night and day.. Amazing.. Cost me some time and money but a completely different ride.. I have them set on 1.. Which is the softest.. havent even messed with it..

It is not as low as anticipated though, about an inch on eclipses and 1.75 on talons, so they say.. I guess when I get the rims, to close up that wheel gap slightly I will go with 235/40/18 with a 35mm offset..

How is your ride doing now? and if it is ok with me, how much did all that end up costing you?

Great man.. it cost me like 560 for the shocks and springs.. recall kit was like 125.. bushings were like 40. . axle was like 80.. and 200 in labor..
