shiting problems going to first

so i just put a new transmission in my 92 laser n/t 2.0 i got the tranny from a 93 1.8 and it doesn't seem to go into 1st gear that good it will only go in first when the car is off and not driving i was just wondering if their is a slight differnce in the cables from each car? and how to fix it thanks

Check you master and slave cylinder! Are they new? Is the clutch and pressure plate and bearing new?

everything in it is brand new.

If you find out whats wrong let me know.My 99 wont go into first unless i just slam it in. other wise it just kind of falls to neutral when i let out of the clutch.
