hey got a 1g and of course everyone knows the common shifting prb and it has been getting harder for me cause i had wrist sugery a while back and it hurts to shift b/c you have to shift so hard in our cars! What's the best setup like metal shifter bushings what else? I heard also to like replace the shifting plate at the bottom of the shifter? anything else? :thumb:

Just as a tip to save money... Instead of paying for shifter bushing "kits," an easy cheap way to do it is just replace the stock bushings with skateboard bearings. They fit exactly and are way WAY cheaper.

You could also try changing your tranny fluid to some BG synchroshift or some pennzoil synrchromesh. That should help some also.

A weighted shift knob might help also. I had a Greddy Counterweight knob in my last DSM, and it defiantely made it easier to shift, without very much effort.

They're just standard ABEC rollerblade/skateboard bearings. You can get them at any sporting goods store, Meijer, Target, etc. You'll need two per shifter arm, so four total. Here's the link on how to do it. I'm doing mine tomorrow, hopefully.

Well, I'm sure you could put them in your gearbox if you really wanted to, but I don't suggest it. ;) According to the tech article, all that's needed is a dremel with a sanding wheel, and a C-clamp of some sort, really. You might even be able to get away with just sanding the inside of the shifter arm with some sandpaper if you really work at it a while. Just enough to press in the bearings so they fit nice and tight.
