Hi i just bought my first DSM today it is a 94 eagle talon 2.0 non turbo 5 speed and it will only go into 2nd and 4th gear but it is still hard to get into those gears still and was lookin at all the linkage today and it didn't seem to be wrong and i was wonderin what else it could be.
PLEASE Help me out
Thanks

i bet u broke ## cable to ## shiftlinkage even tho it might look fine, have someone get in the car and shift and u watch it . it might help. but if not then unhook the linkage and shift it under the hood if u can and see if it goes into gears.

Well it wont go into the other gears but it will sit there and grind if that has anything to do with it.

There are a few things that could cause this. I'll list the ones I know of in order from easiest fix to most difficult/involved. If one doesn't work, do it as best you can and move on to the next step. You may have to go back over the list once you find the problem to be sure everything is right.

1) Make sure you have all the correct parts to match your transmission's shifter arms. This includes the bracket on the transmission, the shift cables, and the shifter assembly itself. Someone may have swapped some components and not others, resulting in a mix that doesn't work correctly.

2) Be sure your shifter bushings aren't worn out. This goes mostly for the rubber ones that attach to the transmission shifter arms, but can also go for the smaller polyurethane ones on the interior end of the shift cables. I'll include that it's possible the cable ends could flex and not transfer the entire length of the throw if you don't have the washers and cotter pins to keep them attached to the transmission.

3) Make sure the adjustable shift cable (the one on the driver side) is adjusted correctly on the shifter assembly.

4) Check the master and slave cylinders for leaks, as well as the hydraulic lines between them.

5) Adjust your master cylinder rod as per the instructions in this video.
YouTube - Proper Clutch Adjustment

6) Make sure your transmission to block bolts are torqued to spec. If not, they could allow the transmission to flex away from the block and not transfer enough motion to fully disengage the clutch.

7) See what position your clutch fork rests in when viewed from under the car. If it's to the passenger side, you need to pull the transmission and replace some things. I would at least do the fork, pivot ball and throwout bearing. More details for this step and number five here: RRE's Clutch And Flywheel Tech Info .

8) Lastly, it could be worn synchronizers. I doubt this, but if you've gotten this far and still haven't found the problem, it might be time for a transmission rebuild/replacement.

Well i am thinkin it is the cables but i cant seem to find them at any part store or anywhere on the internet so if anyone knows where to find them that would be excellent
Thanks

I have a website. You will just need to look for it as if your car was an eclipse. Ricart Automotive - Mitsubishi Parts - Columbus, Ohio
Prices seem to be reasonable. Call a chrysler dealership get the part number for mitsibushi.

I have some other ideas for you. I had a simialr issue with my 92. Check for loose bolts going into the engine from the tranny. That has binded my gears up really well. But shift linkage is more likely. What about the slave and master cylinder. It can make the car not behave properly. Check the steel clutch line make sure everything is fastened properly.
