I just bought a 97 Eclipse GST, while shifting gears i noticed the shifter is loose. I asked the owner of the car and he said he snapped the spring. I searched the forum and found a thread on this and someone had the same problem i have but didn`t say where to get a replacement. Does anyone know where i could get a replacement? And could this have left any other damage? thanks.

Better pic maybe this will help, I have a spare out of a 90 model not sure if it will work for you though.

There are two. I just made an assumption as the one in the car doesn't do much compared to the one on the transmission. Compare left and right with nothing attached to the shifter vs how it normally feels on the trans. The spring at the shifter is MB910178.

The neutral return spring controlling left right on the shifter is inside the transmission. It can't be replaced without teardown. I've never seen one that needed it.
Just found out mine is broken last night after reading this forum and pulling the cable off of the transmission side. Now the quest to find a transmission or parts has begun.

At the trans pull the shifter level up and down? I would just be real shocked to see that spring broken unless there was foreign object damage
