on the highway yesterday when i shift into the next gear and the stick has about 2 inches of play from side to side when im in gear. Is that the shift forks? Would that be an internal transmission problem or sumthing wrong with the cables?

2in? thats alot, theres a VFAQ on this. The end nut is loose inside the trans, Kinda like, the LAST nut to hold every thing together.

Or it could be something wrong with the shifter inside the car. Maybe the nut that holds the shift lever came loose, or the plastic bushings broke up and fell out.

just took off the console today. seems like the tack weld that held the shifter onto that whole shifting "mechinism" broke loose.. probably from all that rough shifting:rolleyes:
