1G Shift linkage

How do I put my automatic shift linkage on the transmission because when I have it in park, it won’t start and I have to have it in reverse for it to start

To properly align the shift linkage, do the following:

1. Chock the wheels
2. Put the shift select in Park
3. Loosen the nut on the transmission linkage
4. Move the transmission linkage by hand to change through the gear positions, counting to make sure you can access L, D, N, R, and finally Park.
7. Retighten the shift linkage nut.
8. Start the car, leave your foot on the brake and verify that you can access all of the gear positions.

If the car will still not start in Park or neutral, go through the above steps one more time. If the gear positions are correctly lined up with the shifter, then you may have a failing neutral safety switch.
