Shift link pin

I changed my trans fluids today and my shift link just came right off the pin. What is suppose to be there to hold it down in place on the pin, and where can i get one.

You could use a cotter pin (the right way) or a paper clip or tie wire (the dsm'r way). I'm sure there are many other things dsm'rs have used over the years but those are the first ones that come to mind.

I prefer the Hairpin to cotter pins. Resuable, not a complete bi*** to get off.

Dont know what kind of pin, it isnt there. Thats my question, what goes there, Im guessing a cotter pin now. The hole seems kinda small for a cotter pin tho. Thanks folks

I have used a paper clip on my car for over a year with no troubles at all

A cotter pin or a diaper clip like BOOSTINSIDEWAYS pointed out are the "right" ways.. However, pretty much anything that will fit in there and prevent the shifter linkage from falling off will do the trick..

They make em in all sizes. I prefer those hairpin types though. I got a big box of em from advance auto for less than 5$ with all kinds of sizes. They are used in a fair few places.

I went out to the parts store and bought an assorted pack of cotter pins. They are nice to have around when you are doing front end work, axles etc.
