Shift light WAY too bright! Any solutions or ideas?

Yes, silly me installing a shift light in my DSM. Anyways, this thing is so bright I am afraid it will blind me when I hit redline. So... does anybody have any ideas on what I could do to dim it down a bit? I thought about resistors on the power side but I am unsure how the circuit works on the inside of the light assembly. Then, I thought about a piece of plexi glass that is covered with tint spray. Problem with that though is that I would be unsure how to attatch it (haven't thought hard on it yet). Has anybody done anything like this before or does anybody have any ideas? Thanks!

Oh and for anybody that is concerned for my well-being as a DSMer, the shift light does serve me a purpose. When shifting from 1st gear to 2nd gear WOT it revs so quick that I think this will come in handy

buy a resistor to step down the power source. All you need to do is buy a 50ohm - 200ohm resistor and solder it on.

why not tape it off real nice, than spray it a couple times with some of that red tint in the rattlecans??? that way it stays red... but more coats means its dimmer... hope my idea helps.

it should have came with that little rubber cap bootie thing. Just throw that on there. Where do you have the shift light mounted?? and having a shift light is in no way shape or form "rice"

Thanks everybody. I never thought of spraying the light cover itself. It is a Autometer Pro-Shift light. I tried using the plastic/rubber cover that came with it but then it was just too dim to the point I could hardly see it. I mounted it in front of the speedometer (still visible) on the steering column above the wiper switch.

I might actually try using red tint spray if I can come across some. Probably end up trying a few hobby stores for that one. Thanks for the ideas and more are always welcome. I will try to get pictures shortly for anybody that is interested. thanks!

aww come on.. like you've never done it..

I used to have an autometer tach that had the shift light on it, and with the rubber slipover thing, it was still bright enough to light up the inside of the truck yellow at night.

Try some clearcoat nail polish, I think that will dull the light a bit. I know it works for LEDs.
