Shep or Aamco tranny?

i really only have a week to get my tranny fixed........aamco supposedly comes with a 1 year warranty but i have heard others have had problems with them and im not sure i trust them.........i have a 91 talon tsi with 16g set to 14 psi and 3 inch exhaust, thats it.......i just want reliability, i can't afford to buy a new tranny after this......aamco said worst case scenario would be around 1000, but i have a feeling they'll charge me more. what should i do? go with shep? will it last?

Isnt a shep rebuild only 900 or so? Id choose a quality shep rebuild anyday. My buddy has a shep tranny and it is like BUTTER.

I would go with a Shep tranny, haven't heard one bad thing about his tranny's.

Full race Shep tranny here...Love every shift of it. I think you need to think about the parts going into it. Bad as it may sound save alittle more and go on with the steal shift fork, heavy duty syncro etc. Worth it in the long run.

Aamco shop, like so many other chains, are a matter of who specifically is working in a given shop.

A boost for the one in Marysville, CA- a friend's rebuilt Chrysler van gearbox let go right in front of their shop, so he left it with them. They called him and said whoever had rebuilt it had done something wrong. Two happy endings: he called the original shop in Stockton, and at their expense they had the van towed from Marysville and did the gearbox over (the right way) and ate the whole bill, including what Aamco had charged to diagnose it. So, big thumbs up not only to the honest shop, but also to the Aamco for not just taking the money and re-doing the gearbox.

But if you have a choice between Aamco and Shep? No question, no thought: Shep all the way.

PLEASE don't get Aamco!! I had to take them to court to finally get me tranny working right and that was after I paid $2500.
