Hey all. Got a quick question for ya. I just bought a "freshly rebuilt" 14b turbo that was sight unseen. It arrives today hanging halfway out of the box that it was shipped in, much to my dismay. I pull it out and start looking it over. Please remember that this is the first turbo that I've laid hands on. I was anticipating swapping it out for the 13b turbo on my 93 AWD Talon. I noticed it has a couple small cracks in the exhaust housing on the inlet side. (Hope my terminology is correct.) I also reached inside the housing to the compressor vanes and I was able to wiggle the shaft around quite a bit. I'm assuming this is where the term "shaft end play" comes into effect. I would guess that I shouldn't be able to wiggle it around at all. Is this thing junk or what? Should I worry about the cracks on the exhaust side? Any input would be appreciated. Let me know what you think.

some minor surface cracking on the hot side is normal, obviously if there is a bigass crack in there you dont want it.. doesnt sound like thats the case though. some shaft play is normal, you should be able to feel it wiggle around a little bit.. by a little bit i mean a little tiny bit though.. a mm or two.. just barely. if the wheel is hitting the housing at all it is junk.
