hey guys, just took a holiday trip to ohio, about 900 miles...about 3/4 way into georgia the car started shaking like a tire had seperated. pulled over and the tires are perfect. took it back on the highway and still doin it. but not constant, it does it then it doesnt. it starts at 55 and stops around 75...though it has come and gone over that speed also.

when u disengage the clutch it stops. i just rebuilt the clutch master before we left. no other problems other than that. this thing will shake u to death.

98 GS, 5 sp....the whole car shakes, not just the steering wheel, the wife popped her head out thw window to check the tires and nothing odd there.

please help, thanks

Sounds to me like drivetrain problems since the problem goes away when you push in the clutch. I'd check the CV joints first.

besides a visual inspection have a shop rotate the tires and see if it feels like it goes away that will help eliminate a tire or wheel balance issue. All tire shops will rotate tires for free. If you can talk them into checking the balance for free do that too. most shops will "check" for free knowing that all tires will usually be out and then charge you to balance them properly. You are looking for a tire to be out maybe 2 to 3 ounces with the vibration you are describing.

I second that emotion,I had 2 break last winter on my old Eagle's. Sometimes it's not as obvious as you might think,to visually see it. I used a straight edge to find out my front right was bad.

+2. They are hard to see. If you get down a feel the tire you will feel it if it's the problem. Just rub down the tire with your hand.

i havent taken them to a shop yet, but i did do a visual inspection and ran my hand over the whole tire, and the back side too...no problems...did that on the side of the road...

i thought the cv joints kept spinning even when the clutch is disengaged ?? as long as the tires are spinning isnt the cv joints ?

I would make sure all suspension comp, are bolted down. As suggested before rotate your tires. Front to back. Just to eliminate tires and rims as the possible cause.

the cv joints do keep spinning, but its a free spin. once you push the clutch in it would take the load off of them. it might sound like a suspension problem, but my money is on driveline. had the same problem with mine and turned out to be the cv axles. id just check them out.

is that a common problem with these ? no problems with the car at all and then bam, the cv's go out ?

Pull the tires and check all ball joints and suspenion bolts. Check intermediate shaft carrier bolts. Check cvs for any play that isn't purely lateral and check your motor/tranny mounts for fun.

had exact same problem with my car. got the wheels ballanced and it went away. im surprised nobody mentioned wheels out of ballance as thats the most common cause for vibration at highway speeds.

well i have did an inspection of the front end and cant see or feel anything outta whack. but i moved to the rear and wow !! i have bald tires on nearly the whole tire except the outter edge on both tires...they were nearly new when i left for the trip !!!!! so my rear is outta align badly..the darn road construction on I-75 in gorgia is alwfull...come to think of it, thats when the car started to vibrate too, rite during a bad section of 75....could this be the culprit of vibration ????

LOL, no way to tell if your wheels are out of ballance. you have to take it to any car place (even pepboys) and have them do it. personally i used my stepdads air bubble ballancer for my front wheels, and now theres no annoying vibration and my car is a highway killer ;). all 4 wheels ballanced should not be any more than 40-50 bucks. do that, and there is a high chance of your problem getting fixed. as i said, without the right tools, absolutely NO WAY of telling if your wheels are out of ballance

well i took 2 forklifts at work today and lifted the car off the ground. all 4 wheels...my buddy got in and put it in gear and held it about 65 to 70 mph...the vibration was there....as he did this i inspected the drivetrain and didnt see anything unusual. the tires seems to have a slight wobble to them at high speeds, very slight though. so i rotated the tires from back to front. drove it down the road. it is still there but not as much. so i got 4 new tires from a buddy and will be goin down next week to get them mounted and balanced. man, i sure hope that is all this is...

Check if one of the calipers are hanging up.I had vibrations on my car when my front right caliper was hanging up.

thanks for all the clues guys...

i live in florida, so no ice or snow...LOL the brakes work perfect... the main thing is that when it vibrates....if i press the clutch in the vibration stops....confusing...

ok, just had new tires put on all around. balanced. still vibrating. though not as bad.
