sequential tranny?

A while ago (as in: five years ago) I saw a 2G with a sequential. It was a one-off and cost something like $10k.

edit: my post crossed with the one above ... that the car was from Eastern Europe rings a bell

well i was looking into building Mad Mikes rx7 drift car; i dont know if you know of him at all..
but i read that he has an HKS sequential shifter, so im like "what if i threw that into my GST"..
so i was wondering if there was even a chance of that

With super deep pockets you could build a death star on the moon..Same principle here..

Or perhapps sharks with freaking lasers attatched to their heads..Or well, you get the point..

Being that the transmission is on the other side of the transmission it would never be possible.

Damm..:(..I knew there would be a very simple answer why that would not work..

haha :banghead:

If your just talking about a shifter and not the gear box Ikeya Formula makes a sequential shifter for the evo's. So I'm sure if you really want it and will fork out close to 2 grand you could have one. That is actually pretty cheap when you look at the cost of a true SS gear box.

Kevin

yeah thats not bad i guess..
wouldnt you have to change out the gear box in oder to run a sequential shifter?

Extreme Tuners in Greece makes sequential shifters for the Evo 8 and 9. I'm sure they can make a sequential shifter for a dsm. But of course, it would cost a pretty penny.

Here's their Evo revving to 11k and shifting like butter. Just go straight to the 1:40 mark.

that videos sick, but thats not it :/
its just 5 down 5 up...kind of like a motorcylce if you know to to shift one
and it seems as if that gear box is different than the 2g GST, my shifter knob is very poorly guided..

That's not sequential, that still has the H pattern. I think he wants sequential like a motorcycle, which is not going to be cheap.

yes thats exactly what i mean...it may not be cheap but they do make them?
i mean im going to need a new tranny soon so im just looking around. this linkage stuff gets me everytime. i find it kind of hard to slam 3rd. :banghead:

Yeah. Quaife makes many SS gear boxes. However you would be looking a 10k plus price tag and Im sure it would require custom work on top of the price.

Kevin

Just for the record what is a sequential shifter and whats so special about it that may warrant a 10k price tag?

Not a shifter. A gear box. It is a true balls to the walls transmission for motor sports where lighting fast shift separates winners for losers. Yeah it is crazy expensive. It's funny how people how people have know idea how much it cost to build a real race car. You should check out how much a set of penske dampers run. It too will make you want to cry.

Here is a vid of a tru SS gear box in action.

I've seen one of these, apparently they can make one for the 2Gs but they do not advertise it. IIRC it was $2900 out the door.

Note to the OP it is a sequential shift assembly, not a sequential gear box. You would probably shear teeth left and right banging gears with one of these. Maybe mate one of these to a dogbox :D

Shep is now running a sequential in the talon. Just for reference a t56 emco sequential trans is 22k. So, you can imagine you're going to spend a pretty penny for a trans we rarely see in this platform.
